Bumping. Hopefully we can get someone who knows a decent amount about it. I tried researching it a few weeks ago and didn't have much luck.
Hope Karelian folk is ok.
Herra Patteri - Karjala rahvalaul

I do know quite a bit. It depends in the end of what you are looking for?

I'm having trouble finding actual traditional songs. The songs I usually come across seem like original songs by modern artists done in a kinda traditional style. Would you be able to make a list of songs that you consider essential traditional Nordic folk songs? Like songs that kids over there would learn in a music class or something.

What do you actually mean by that? That is, what does traditional in this instance imply? I posted "Herr Mannelig", for instance, because "Herr Mannelig (also known as "Herr Mannerlig" and "Bergatrollets frieri [The Courting of the Mountain Troll]"[1]) is a medieval style Swedish ballad that tells the story of a female mountain troll who proposes marriage to a knight."
That is, what are you looking for? What does "traditional" imply as far as you are concerned?
I only know about Wardruna

Link is "Fanitullen" a traditional slått(style of norwegian folk music) originating from Hallingdalen.
There are tons more like it, but this is one of the most well known pieces.

Det var ett tag sedan man hörde den.

Yeah, 'Herr Mannelig' and >>65209385
are more what I'm looking for I think. I guess Nordic folk 'standards' are what I'm looking for. Like, if we were talking about American folk music, I'd be looking for 'Amazing Grace' or even 'Which Side are You on?" rather then an original Bob Dylan song.
i have a fair amount of this stuff. some favorites:
V/A - Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings (start here)
Árstiðir - Svefns og vöku skil
Wardruna - Runaljod: gap var Ginnunga
Empyrium - Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays
Vàli - Forlatt
Tenhi - Maaäet
Havnatt - Havdogn + Var je solblesten
Agalloch - The White EP
