ITT: Post your personal top 5 albums of all time list (also explaining why you picked them)

maybe later, now I'm going to bed

In no order. Only one album per artist so as to avoid overcrowding.

>OK Computer
because it got me into music big time and hit me in an important phase in my life, plus the songs are fucking dope famalam.

>Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
because I have a very strong emotional attachment to it, again, very important time in my life when I heard this. I find it very soothing and upbeat, plus you can't fucking go wrong with a day in the life.

>Spiderland
ultimate night time album, cozy in the darkest way. just fucking great y'know.

>Loveless
comfiest shit ever, genre classic, just perfect. plus bilinda is sexy.

>Illmatic
album that got me into hip hop at like, 12 years old. it's one of the greatest albums i've ever heard, unbelievably brilliant. life's shit then we die.

*life's a bitch then we die

sorry for being a stupid asshole
>>
>Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites
The only album I've ever played nonstop for a month and liked every song, though it does have an ugly cover. The transitions on this album are amazing, I think it's one of the best albums of the last decade

>Radiohead - OK Computer
Got me into music, and I still enjoy it a lot, especially Lucky and The Tourist

>Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People
It always gets really strong emotional reactions from me, despite a couple low points. The beginning few seconds of Almost Crimes are genius.

>Pram - The Stars Are So Big, The Earth Is So Small
It really sounds like nothing else, and has such a cool aesthetic that I never get tired of it. Loredo Venus blows my mind still.

>Red House Painters - s/t
I thought it was boring on the first listen, but now I think it's crazy it evokes such strong emotions in me with such simple structures. Mistress in particular I love.
>>
>The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Took everything I grew to love about the Beatles to the next level (harmonic orchestration), add some cool vocal harmony shit on top of that, and finish it off with lyrics I identify hard with. Along with Smile my favorite approach to a more baroque classical inspired popular music.

>Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness
More than any album I have ever listened to, this album has really stood the test of time for me as a music listener. During my first few listens when I was just getting more into metal I didn't think it was anything special and just thought it was another cool OSDM album. But over the years and after more listens I truly do feel that this is the pinnacle of what metal offers. Each track offers a ton of riffs none of which are weak that have smooth transitions and are delivered with the utmost coffee/cocaine levels of hurry/intensity that makes it feel faster than more technical and faster music. My favorite bridge between visceral and cerebral music.

>Amon Duul II - Yeti
Take the coolest aspects of krautrock and combine it with some of the coolest aspects of prog rock and you get this monstrosity. Easily dismiss-able as another generic krautjam album, but there's a lot going in this album. Like seriously, you get everything from heavy psych riffing (easily the heaviest among prog/krautrock bands), loads of world music arrangements, minimalism sections with 7-8 different things happening at the same time, and a more jazzy approach to improvisation than someone like Can. Even though they sound like shit on live recordings, everyone sounds great in the studio on their instruments using a wide variety of technique on each to make everything feel lyrical as hell (again, a very jazzy approach to using instruments.)

>Swans - Soundtracks For The Blind
Best album by my favorite band ever. This one's even unique among its post-rock ilk in that it's not just a textural masterpiece, but a timbrel one, too.

->To Be Continued
>>
>Charles Mingus - The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady
Like my Amon Duul II pick may have shown, I am just a huge fan of music in general that can have many things happen at the same time without sounding like a mess where the artists didn't even try to put it together. This album's a master at doing that, too, taking the concepts of classical music's approach to orchestration and melding it with jazz (thus the third stream genre label.) This album has me convinced that Mingus is probably the best bandleader to ever exist in jazz with how he handles all these different instrumental parts hitting frequencies low and high coming together so well (even if his methods might not have been the nicest to getting them that way.)

I feel you on Spiderland. So glad my first listen to it was around 1:30 am in the middle of the night all alone. Cozy in the darkest way indeed.

>>65187419
Damn you love your music dreamy as fuck. You listen to everything in a snuggie?
>>
>>65187958
Heh, no. I might try it now though.

Also nice taste, I like Yeti a lot.
>>
>The Piper at the gates of Dawn- Pink Floyd
>Close to the edge- Yes
>In the Court of the Crimson King- King Crimson

>also explaining why you picked them
lmao

>OK Computer
>Exile on Main Street
>Turn on The Bright Lights
>The Doors
>Ziggy Stardust
>The Idiot
>This is Happening

can't narrow it down to 5
>>
>Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Production, instrumentation, songwriting and lyrics are top notch
Favorite track: Ashes Of American Flags
>Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
Raw, emotional, it offers insight to any negative feeling you can have, ranging from anger, depression, sadness to nostalgia
Favorite track: Teeth Like God's Shoeshine
>Eskimeaux - Two Mountains
Never heard anything quite like it, It's an amazing mixture of deeply personal lyrics and experimental, yet traditional music.
Favorite track: Nanuq
>Beulah - Handsome Western States
Delicate lo-fi meets great melodies. It's very raw and not as polished as WYHB - but that's exactly what I love. Employs a happy atmosphere
Favorite track: Lay Low For The Letdown
>American Music Club - Everclear
The range of emotions is incredible, supported by great songwriting. Starts off with 'Why Won't You Stay', one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, immediatley followed by the anthemic Rise
Favorite track: Sick of Food
>>
>Confield
The gift that keeps on giving. I still don't fully grasp this album, and I probably never will. Like being in another dimension.
>Kid A
I can be completely lost in the world of this album. Lost at sea, come back to me, don't bother me. You are living in a fantasy.
>Sound Of Silver
All songs are highlights which is rare for any album, even some of my favourites. All My Friends is absolutely perfect.
>Demon Days
Got me into music, and this album also has only great tracks, not a single song below 8/10. I used to dislike White Light and the out as a kid but I've since come around to it.
>The Lemon Of Pink
Showed me that experimental music can be light-hearted and fun. Makes me feel happy to be a part of the human race somehow.
