Thing is metal is and has genres of in itself already.
Doom, Stoner, Thrash, Speed, Heavy, Sludge, Death, Folk, Black, Power etc. plus all the smaller genre wankery terms you can have - atmo, blackened, melo, epic, tech etc.
Plus bands are usually dedicated to one genre an do that which makes it easier to have certain theme built to it.
Metal album with Thrash at start, then Drone as second, continued with Black metal, followed by Power metal etc. would just sound weird as a whole
