A lot of the songs on the album go on for way too fucking long without offering any kind of interesting new elements.
Literally all of the 5+ minutes tracks on this album would be better had they been cut down to 3 minutes. Now i still love Burial, he's one of my all time favorite artists, but i prefer his EPs over his albums.
In terms of electronic albums that topped this one, Luxury Problems by Andy Stott in my opinion.

Besides, even overly long dance songs can still be interesting, take Burial/Four Tet - Moth for example. That song is like 9 minutes but doesn't get boring. Same for music produced by someone like Nicolas Jaar.

Probably because it was his albums that made more mainstream music critics outside the dance scene pay attention to him and really hype him up and there would have been a lot of pressure for him to deliver a third album that was even better than the previous two. I feel like all that pressure to appeal to his masses of newfound fans more rooted in indie and rock music and IDM than the underground dance scene was the reason he went radio silent for a good 3 years after untrue came out.
That's not Substrata though.
