Kek. That is pretty funny. It's too bad that Wagner is now always associated with Hitler.

>It's too bad that Wagner is now always associated with Hitler.
Yep. I'm pretty sure that Beethoven, Mozart and Bach were the most popular in Nazi Germany. Beethoven especially. Wagner really hated those damn jews though.
>>64818487
was wagner actually especially anti-semitic for his period?
>>64818502
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Judenthum_in_der_Musik
He wrote this.
>>64818569
Oh. Right then.
/r/ing super repetitive pieces like ravel's bolero
>>64810025
i wouldn't say that is completely true. he was a fairly well known conductor before he got really slow, he had guest conducted at more than just a few fairly respectable orchestras.
i guess the contemporary crowd probably knows him through being that really slow conductor, though. for me his idiosyncratic balances, accents, and dynamics are what set him apart from the rest of the crowd. for most of his life his tempi were fairly normal, and, in some cases, faster than the norm.
>>64818487
>Wagner really hated those damn jews though.
he didn't really hate them more than anyone else during the time period in which he was alive. Wagner was kind of a dick to just about everyone, it's important to take into account his personality as well.
he was definitely an anti-semite, but he wasn't completely dominated by that mindset either, since he had a great number of jewish friends, like Hermann Levi, whom he was willing to let premiere Parsifal.
>>64818569
>>64818615
He's also banned in Israel.
>>64818922
>Because of these factors, performances of Wagner's works in the modern state of Israel did not occur during the twentieth century, by consensus. In recent years many Israelis have argued that it is possible to appreciate his musical talents, without implying acceptance of his political or social beliefs.
>A public performance in Tel Aviv in 2001 of Wagner’s prelude to Tristan und Isolde, conducted as an unprogrammed encore by Daniel Barenboim, left its audience partly delighted, partly enraged.
Fags.
>>64818922
Yeah, it's kind of pathetic. Barenboim has been trying to get Wagner acceptably played there for years and the reactions to him doing so are completely out of proportion, going as far as to call him a facist just because he wanted to encore the Tristan prelude at a concert. He was even forced to make an apology (in spite of it being publicly denounced by Mehta and the Israel Philharmoic). Some people have no rhyme or reason when it comes to this stuff.
What's funny about all this is that Herzl, the zionist of all zionists, loved Wagner. it was his favorite composer.
>>64818502
no more than any other European of the time. Literally everybody in Europe hated jews. Still do. There's a reason holocaust humor exist.
Is there a greater piece in the world than Scriabin's 5th sonata? I think not.

I didn't know Beecham had a female clone.

You're a pleb just for asking.
>>64821486
Makes sense, first piece i played was one of his.
I'm listening to Mendelssohn's forth symphony right now, the one in A major. Any thoughts on this piece or Mendelssohn's ability as a composer?

I appreciate you anon. All saved and all will get a considered listen
>>64821304
No.
>>64822797
Above average composer, underrated by plebs
>>64818832
Other anti semites include Shakespeare and potentially John Lennon
Wagner seemed a bit more devoted however
>>64820741
I like the Faure but the Adams and Otte sound more like soundscapy type shit, I want real composition but repetitive mane! I love Reich as well but that's not what I'm looking for.
>>64820768
What a cheeky rendition of this song. Love her
someone convince me there's a better work for string quartet than Webern's Five Pieces, Op. 5
Such a beautiful instrument
