Now that the dust has settled, where do you rate this among the rest of AC's albums?
I would put it 5th, behind MPP, Sung Tongs, Strawberry Jam, and CHz

I'd put it at eleventh, between Centipede Hz and nothing.
This is the only animal collective album I've heard
I guess it's my favorite
I think the people that dont link it are those who got into their early stuff first, and people like me that first got into SJ and MPP first like it.
Im a fan of a lot more of their work now, but i still like this album a lot; it's definitely not a simple and uninspired album that people believe it to be

It's taken a while to click because the sounds and the melodies are angular and squiggly and the music is so structurally inventive that i think the flat or simple surface is a little deceptive cos there's so little with that level of compositional control

Why does everyone hate Danse Manatee?
I'm listening to them for the first time (chronologically, on HCTI now) and it didn't strike me as bad at all. It wasn't nearly as strong as Spirit but it was a decent album overall.
Also did they ever do anything like Spirit ever again? I love HCTI but that album is fucking GOAT.

dude FBK has bleed, one of their all time most boring songs. No more runnin is one of my top MPP songs too so believe me, I can take the slower, atmospheric tracks. Also On a Highway never did much for me and neither did I think I can.
