Is there a more useless band member than Ed O'Brien?

Obligatory.

who is there?

Muh dick
>>
>>64801829
tome york in daydreaming lol
>>
>>64801770
I don't get it, how is he still a member of the band? He literally serves no purpose in the band.
>>
Imagine just showing up every once in a while for live tours and just collecting royalties and taking care of your garden
>>
>>64801853
He does textures
>>
>>64801770
lol 1:33, he's so happy.
>>
I still think Ed will one day release his solo album, and we'll all realise he was the Deakin of the group all along.
>>
I think it's a dickhead move of Thom to be handling live guitar duties as well. At least leave that for Ed lmao
>>
>>64801761
Isn't he the mastermind behind Meeting in the aisle?
It's one of the most well thought songs radiohead ever did.
>>
Andy Morin

I don't listen to the Radioheads, can someone explain this tasty meme?

yes, you

Watch any live performance. He just awkwardly stands around or sits somewhere while the band plays music. Even the stuff he plays on albums is handled by Thom Yorke or Jonny Greenwood.

At least he played the drums on most of their songs.

Anyway, the objective answer is Bez
>>
Can anyone crown him with the JUST hair?
>>
>>64801761
The reason every Radiohead song is overproduced is because they need to find something for Ed to do
>>
>>64801986
Bez riled up the crowds like no one else. He was an important aspects in Mondays' live performances. Ed does jack shit.
>>
>>64801937
I just checked
He has also written the instrumental "Meeting in the Aisle"
So he wrotte meeting in the aisle, He isn't a talentless hack.
>>
I think that ed did a lot of guitar stuff on this album while jonny was too busy with orchestra stuff.

I also think he's responsible for most of the sounds they do with the guitars.
>>
>>64801770
fucking hell, i never knew how bad it was, i remember back in the pablo honey days he was basically rhythm all the time
>>
he's the cute one <3

he only serves to make their live shows worse by singing out of tuning and banging his fucking tambourine
>>
>>64801853
Because Thom doesn't have the guts to expel him.

"Ey thommy boy, another album right?"
"Y-yes Edo"
"And this time, what am i doing? you told me we would return to our roots right?"
"R-right. Sit there and wait until i need you. You can use my computer in the meantime"
"Yes (this is my time)"
>>

>"You can use my computer in the meantime"

you blew it. At least you got nice nazi dubs.

watch this nigga
>>
Memes aside, Ed is actually an important member of the band. Everyone thinks all of the guitar work is Jonny but Ed does a ton of it and Ed does most of the backing/background vocals. Cherrypicking some examples of him standing around doing nothing doesn't mean he's useless.
>>
>>64803357
He does most of the live backing vocals which sound worse than Thom's. Most on the studio recordings are Thom.

It seems like his most important role is filling them out when they play live. That's what's most obvious anyway.
>>
>>64801986
Spotted the wanker
>>
Ed did Treefingers too.
>>
I'm sure he's still in the band because he's been friends with those faggots forever. He also does other shit behind the scene probably.
>>
>>64803566
>Most on the studio recordings are Thom.
No, Ed does a ton of the backing vocals.

He wrote Meeting In The Aisle which is one of the cooler b-sides, as well as the riff to one of my all time favorites Big Boots. I think he's really cool.

Also he was high as shit when filming this

>>64801853
They gotta have an attractive face in there to make up for Colin Phil and Thommy
>>
>>64805558
No, all of the harmonies are done by Yorke. Listen to No Surprises or Reckoner. Then look for any live performancens and you can see how Ed butchers the songs with his awful voice. He's in the band because he's a good looking tall normie and has to balance the other 4 autists.
>>
Speaking of Ed fuck ups, this one is pretty hilarious

>>
>>64805677
>He's in the band because he's a good looking tall normie
He's in the band because he's a great guitarist who adds a lot of textures to their sound. Stop being such a bitter faggot.
>>
>Ed: Hey Thom, you can just sing when we play Reckoner live. I'll take care of the guitar for ya, mate.

>Thom: Uhh. I don't think it's a very good idea for you to have the guitar during Reckoner.

>Ed: Why no-

>Thom: Here's a tambourine. We need a tambourine player for this one.

>Ed: But I can play gui-

>Thom: I can't play the tambourine and sing because there could be some infetterence with the mic.

>Ed: Oh...I see. Okay.

>Thom: Can you get more milky ways when you go to the store?
>>
>>64805667
>implying that colin and thom aren't attractive.
Mate, c'mon.
>>
>>64805757
You only see them as attractive because of their fame and talent.
>>
omg he's the new Deakin
>>
Cmon guys Ed is really handsome.
>>
Ed is solely responsible for one of the best written and most recognizable guitar lines in their career (Street Spirit (Fade Out))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
>>
>>64805835
Did you have a stroke typing that?
But seriously, I think that riff alone is enough to warrant Ed being in the band.

who knows? maybe because they are all buddies, actually have fun playing music together, and don't judge each others usefulness as such.

>>
>>64806047
The entire TKOL tour wasn't all that great for Thom. Neither was the AMOK tour.
>>
>>64806083
I've noticed that from recordings, but I saw them twice on KOL and him once for AMOK and you really don't tend to be aware when you're there. Really high energy shows - some of the best I've been to. Like, I saw them twice for the In Rainbows tour as well and they def sounded more pristine but it wasn't quite as "fun".
>>
Probably thom is jelly of ed, and that's why he is reducing his protagonism with every release.

I know some of you are just meming, but he's all over the new album. Any time you hear this fuzzy, jangly guitar drone, it's probably him: Listen to it in tracks like Daydreaming, Desert Island Disk, Present Tense, and Decks Dark--not to mention he's clearing dueling with Jonny in Ful Stop.
It all may not sound like much, but it wouldn't be the same without him. Could they have just gotten someone else to record those bits? Sure maybe, but don't say Ed does nothing.
>>
>>64806193
He's also on back vocals, when they're doing lives. Nobody seems to remember that.
>>
>>64806193
OK Ed
>>
>>64801829
meg white's most complex drum rhythm
>>
>>64806193
yeah in all seriousness Ed does do plenty of shit

plus he wrote the guitar line to street spirit (one of their best songs) and is absolutely integral on most of their albums, especially AMSP
>>
>>64806026
This era Thom is QTest, before he went full 60 year old crackhead.

well that's a little misleading... he recorded a bunch of guitar feedback one day, and then Thommy boy cut those recordings up and put together Treefingers. Great ambiance though

Also he plays guitar on Separator, that alone makes him worth it

That slide guitar in separator is so fucking good, makes the song.

I call him the Bruce Johnston of Radiohead. Nice voice, and every once in a while just pulls a brilliant song or idea out of thin air
Its a rare and confusing gift
