Just got a ton of stuff in the mail, pics when I get home. Gonna be doing some fretwork and modding today too if I get off work on time, pics to follow.

Picked up a uber rare Sonic Crayon Anti-Nautilus v1 the other day. Its a pretty incredible granular delay with pitch shifting. I recorded this clyp when i first hooked it up to make sure it wasn't DOA, ran Ziggy Stardust through it and went through the range of all the knobs. Some really great time stretching, and glitching and sound on sound layering, and lo-fi sounds etc.

https://clyp.it/ntgrxjjo

Also recorded this clip going through the buffer and break knob range, pretty incredible.

https://clyp.it/ighlxdue
>>
Found a great combo stacking two granular delays. A Red Panda particle into a MASF possessed. Also ran the step sequencer CV out from a Koma ft201 into the expression control on the particle, it controlled the probability of direction of the playback to the grains.

Here's a little clip of the combo.

does it look any better? what might make it look better?
>>
>>64747098
I'd try to cover that gap between the bridge hummer similar to the gap between the neck hummer and pickguard....so it runs parallel with it instead of at that angle like it looks, or at least a smaller gap.
>>
I got some feedback and recommendations for vocal exercises a couple months ago, and I've been practicing every day since. Progress is very slow but I'd like to ask if any of my senpaitachi have any pointers based on the following. I've also been working on expanding the range I'm most comfortable singing in. I know I started off a bit shakey bit the second verse is a bit stronger. At one point I run out of breath which is pretty pathetic, but I'm working on it.

https://clyp.it/po44jsro

You guys' feedback is solid gold to me.
>>
>>64747098
Which is new? The left has cooler humbuckers, but the right has weird humbuckers so I guess that's the newer one. I think I prefer the left, sorry to say. Good job on it though, looks tidy.
>>
I need honest opinions on VM Jazzmasters.
About to downgade from pic related.
>>
LTD EC1000 or BW-1?
Both are available for the same price but it looks like the signature one is better value with the evertune bridge, I'm not sure what the BW1 is like to play though and no stores near me have them to play, I tried out the EC1000 and loved it and I'm pretty sure they should have the same neck but I can't find anything about the weight or how it would be to hold.
Any advice on how to get an idea for how they would compare?
>>

Squier - "Just okay for the priceā„¢"

You might need fretwork and they only really accommodate medium strings, but it looks and feels like a jazzmaster. The price is not great but as far as I know there are no decent jazzmaster clones by other companies. Truthfully, you are better off with a different brand since you're probably going to want fretwork and a pickup upgrade anyway, but since there's no alternative that looks like a jazzmaster you might find it worth it.

the one on the right is new, it came from the factory with Lace Alumitones. neat pickups but I prefer the sound of traditional humbuckers. I will probably put chrome caps on them after I change the pots, it is slightly on the muddy side right now and caps would push it over the edge.

>>
>>64747461
Now that I think about it, Xavier makes a jazzmaster. Good deal, comes with the same bridge and vibrato design. I'd do that. Both the Squier and the Xavier MIGHT not need fretwork but your chances with one are as good with the other, i.e. slim. The headstock on the Xavier is actually really fucking cool, I didn't know about that. Obviously they come with gfs pickups so they're a step above squier in terms of sound.

agreed for the most part but I can't really use the trem (which is kind of a big deal) and sound-wise although it's very usable it just can't replace a single coil guitar (or something like a les paul for that matter). coil tapping would help but i don't have money to do any upgrades rn
>>
>>64747610
i don't come across many jazzies where i live so i'll try it out and if it really needs a fretwork i'll just drop it because it would cost me most of the money i'd get downgrading
xaviers may be good for what i know but no way of trying one out so i won't risk it
plus the headstock is hideous
>>
>>64747849
yeah that looks better. hmmm, horizontal between the pups i think. the little tail below the bigsby could be thicker instead of getting skinny. i think maybe a horizontal line thats in as far as the the edge between the pups, filling in the same space from the edge as the rest of the guard.
>>
>>64746809
Play some Ramones. Blitzkrieg Bop literally takes only 4 power chords to sound great and do the whole song. I Wanna Be Sedated is similar, and it also has a solo where you just repeat a single note. You'll seem like a genuine rockstar.
>>
>>64747916
Honestly the squier will need the same amount of work, you shouldn't assume it won't, the fretwork will be at best passable. It's not going to cost you $200 to get fretwork done anyways. If you don't like the headstock I get it, though honestly most headstock designs look a lot better than most people think on first blush, since anything different automatically looks "wrong" on a classic design. But once you get past that they can be just as good if not better than the fender fin design.

I don't think it's wise to settle for mediocre fretwork just because your going for a cheap guitar... It's not worth putting up with. If you get the squier, level it.

I'm getting a real huge case of regret over here. How do you guys find the motivation to keep on playing and learning?
>>
>>64748370
learn songs as much as possible, learn theory gradually as you feel like it. Eventually you'll WANT to learn theory. In the meantime, fuck it. Learn some heavy riffs, learn some easy punk songs, goof around, whatever. Don't force yourself to practice when you don't want to. When you listen to music keep an ear out for things that sound easy to play. Learning some of your favorite songs is the perfect gateway to guitar addiction.
>>
>>64748370
say hello to JustinGuitar, learn some strumming patterns and the basic chords. don't even think about doing complicated songs until you've finished the courses.
>>
>>64747098
the one with the alumitones looks better

did you get rid of those for those low budget looking humbuckers?
>>
>>64748370

Don't get too hung up on being bad, everyone starts somewhere and there's no shame in it either. Take pride in your failures, because somewhere out there someone bought a guitar and amp, tried to learn and gave up after a week and put it on ebay. You can persevere.

Anybody else play with a MWFX Judder? I love this thing, a sample based glitchy delay that does all sorts of different things/sounds. Here is one particular setting i found, does a sort of arpeggio on the repeats and then i dial up the sound on sound layering towards the end.

I've got a 400-500 dollar budget right now, should I spend it on a MIM Jazzmaster Bass or a proper Fender Jazzmaster?

I have a white VMJM right now, I love it to bits but I'm wondering what I'll get if I try to sell it and use the money to upgrade to a proper Fender Jazzmaster. Is the difference going to be great enough to justify the time/hassle/not getting a bass instead?
>>
Okay, I'm a bassist and I'll be having a post-rock-ish shoegaze-ish session this week.
I have a vox stomplab multi-pedal, and I'm planning to get ableton live on my macbook.

>>
>>64751269
It kinda sucks to say because I'm sure you'd like to narrow your choices down but pretty much any guitar can be used for jazz. And honestly, it's a genre where it's hard to even prefer one guitar over another once you're competent with EQ. However I will say that for some blues and jazz tones having a p90 is useful.

So, I'll give you the same advice I give everyone buying their first guitar which is to get at least two kinds of pickups in your guitar, with the addendum that a p90 is probably a good idea in particular for you, though you should let your own opinion and bias be the final judge.
>>
>>64751499
>Where do I start learning jazz/gypsy jazz
jazzguitar.be is a good source. No one plays gypsy jazz on an electric, though.
>What's the best jazz/rock/blues guitar
I'd say a Tele Deluxe would cover all those genres nicely.

You need to go to a guitar store, plug into a nice amp and decide if you prefer humbuckers or single coils.

The clipping is just on/off basically and that's just an extra set of clipping diodes. Otherwise its a strange kind of opamp overdrive. It doesn't get super dirty or anything however I'm still learning more about it. You can get more clipping out of it the more you boost the bass/treble.

If I would buy a cheap squier, but not a too cheap, just around the 300 bucks. And put new pickups in it. Would it be a decent guitar or do I really need to pay a 1000 dollars for a good guitar?

Depends on who levels the frets, you're still risking running into an incompetent fuckface.
Like that anon with a fender elite with compound radius who had his guitar completely fucked because the person who leveled the frets thought it was a regular radius.

>>64752481
You won't get an incredible guitar, but it'll make it work good enough for gigs.
And you can keep the pickups when you change guitar, as long as it's the same routing and number of strings.

Hot Rod Deluxe will take pedals better, DRRI will sound better guitar strait to amp

DRRI is a classic sound. They sound really awesome. Hot Rod Deluxe are more of a compromise, they sound pretty good (at least the clean channel does, drive channel is kinda wack) but not quite all the way there to a really nice classic fender sound.

>>64753775
early JTM45s were derived from the Bassman circuit but they sound more unique than they do similar. They have different phasing, impedance, transformers in the Marshalls were larger, different power tubes.

>>64753976
Also, the AC10 sounds really nice, those are pretty cheap used and not a huge pain in the ass like AC15s to move around and they are still really loud, but also have a master.

new england
maybe 6-7 years ago I'd occasionally see DRRIs in the 700 dollar range. Usually around 800 now used.

>>64754614
DRRIs are pretty scooped EQ wise (thats a big part of blackface fenders sound), pedals like lots of mids/flat EQ to latch onto. HRD has more mids. No mid control on a DRRI and certain pedals can sound a bit tinny or weak through a DRRI whereas with an amp with more mids they sound really good and full.

GT100 user here.
I prefer the GT100 because of the screen, which TOTALLY is worth the money. It allows you to use your patches in "pedalboard mode" as I call it, you can know which patch you are in much faster, you can actually use it on stage.. I think it has a billion times more features. IMO the GT80 is not worth it because you don't have as much control over your effects as you would have with a pedalboard. For recording it's fine though, but I would use the Boss computer software to change my stuff around. I hated that on my ME20, checking which knob is for what setting etc.
>>
>>64754756

>>64754756

>>
I got a Blueridge, which sounds pretty decent for its price. Also got a cheap strat.

I need some advice. I can play fine and I also know the theory behind making solos and stuff.
I'm just wondering where to go from here. I usually play by myself and most songs are piss easy. I'm not sure how to challenge myself.
>>
>>64754845
how does that not make sense to you?

Amps have inherent EQ characteristics, pedals have EQ characteristics. It's much easier for a pedals effect to come through and be pronounced if the EQ of what the effect is going into has a flatter curve so parts of it are not lost in an EQ scoop
>>
>>64754845
Not him but the guy that asked him to answer and you're taking this the wrong way completely

Ever try playing say a tubescreamer through an amp with no mids. Sounds thin as hell and just bad most of the time. Some pedals just don't sound good with some amps because of their eqs.

there is no issue, I've bought some 'artec' labeled pickups and I've bought some GFS pickups. They are all pretty good sounding. GFS mark up on rebranded pickups is very small, you might save 4-5 dollars buying the Artec one over the GFS.

GFS does have some of its own designs, but the factory that makes them is owned by Artec (its in Korea)

basically, just look for 'Alnico'

If the pickup has alnico magnets, its usually going to sound pretty decent. You can even switch out ceramic magnets in cheapo pickups for alnico ones for a couple dollars. You need to have a big ass magnet though to charge them.

Yes mate... I feel you, I have been going through phases too. Been depressed a long part of my life and kinda sucks. The only time I felt truly happy it's buried in the past now.

My biggest help has been going to the gym and lifting, that serotonin burst and overall relaxation and accomplishment really turns the tide over the sadness and emptiness I feel inside from time to time. You feel better because you did something to improve or at least you did something good with yourself, if you get into a routine you kinda feel that you are going somewhere and it's kinda fun.

As for finding the motivation, it's not a matter of thinking it too much, that will never get you off the ground, it's a matter of just going and doing shit without thinking it twice.

Wish I could be of more assistance, mate. I wish you all the best.

Is anyone here good at the thumping technique using in the song An Infinite Regression? I can't seem to get the upstroke with my thumb to ring out correctly.

I'm not really good at it but on a good day I'll pull it off; you have to kinda use the wrist for the double thumb part.
I'm not exactly sure of if you need the thumb to bend outwards, but mine does when I use double thumb on guitar.
I don't know if you watched it but there's an official video of it on youtube.

no fap is bullshit

but
>stop thinking about your mental state
>meditate for 20 minutes every morning
is A+ advice

i guarantee you will not get better unless you distract yourself and stop thinking about how you need to get better. it will take a period of retraining your mind and it's honestly hard to find the motivation for it, but it's worth it.

have you talked to your doc about medications NZbro? they can help in the interim

actually i just read that you've been clinically depressed since age 11. so idk if any of that applies. it was more for mild-moderate depression.

Absolutely, you are messing with a loaded gun in that case imho.
Don't try anything without the counsel of a psychiatrist or any doctor capable of prescribing stuff.
