Interesting find last week, came across this early 60's Guyatone GP-24 sound hole pickup on Craigslist. It requires no modding to install, it clamps into place with a clip on one side and two little pivoting spider arms on the other, and it's actually very sturdy, doesn't move around at all while playing. It has its own volume/tone controls and an input jack. Sounds fantastic, very clear with lots of tone control, I'll try and get around to recording a tone demo some time this week.

Two different kinds of 3 string dulcimer guitars. The smaller one is a Seagull Merlin, you can buy them retail for $100, they sound great and are super easy to play. The larger and weirder looking one is the Thai version of dulcimer guitars, called a Phin. They're all hand built, I don't believe anybody mass produces them, may be wrong, got mine off some hoarder old lady for $20. All dulcimer guitars have diatonic fret spacing so you tune them to an open tuning, like EBE, and every fret is spaced to a scale so you can't play them wrong. The Phin's are hand built by random dudes and typically the frets are spaced by ear to no particular scale, so they sound really weird.

Here's a little blues track I did on mine: https://soundcloud.com/epoch6/echo-lake
>>
>>64728580
Why wouldn't that be possible? Pretty sure Mike Dirnt used a Gibson G-3 or Grabber at some point. Plus you can get a decent Pbass sound out of those.
>>
>>64727762
If you can afford it, it is very helpful to have at the beginning to get the basics down.

After you can learn songs and stuff on your own its usually best to cut the cord, unless you really want to be a serious session player or something.
>>
>>64728719
He only played the G-3 live during the dookie tours and didn't use it on an album again until insomniac, he said it in multiple interviews that he used a P/J bass to record Dookie with an SVT II. It was most likely a Precision bass plus since he says it was brand new and active. My Japanese Jazz Bass Special bass NAILS the tone 100%. It was recorded with a PJ.
>>
So I leave my guitars open in my bedroom, on its stand 24/7

The temperature is constant here, except at night where I on the AC.

Is it any bad for the guitar this way? It's an electric btw.
>>
>>64728767
Dirnt timeline

10039 Slappy etc... - G-3
Kerplunk - G-3
Dookie - P/J
Insomniac - G-3
He switches between a 70s P and the G-3 up until warning iirc. He gets his Fender endorsement soon after AmIdiot.
>>
>>64728804
Strings will go a little sharp but other than that no. What affects your neck and fret ends etc. is humidity.
>>

I wouldn't do that with my electric guitar. my guitar is in a hard-case like pic related.

I mean, you should be okay having your guitar out like that, i do that with my cheaper classic guitars, but just to let you know that you increase the chances of it accidentally falling and breaking

A PJ's only going to sound different than a JJ only if you're using both pickups at the same time, if you have the same bridge pickup and pots, it'll sound the same on the bridge.

The SG is mine (SG Original 2), the Flying V (120th Anniversary V) is my bandmate's. They're basically the same guitar. Same neck, same pickups (classic 57s), same finish. The aged cherry finish is fucking gorgeous in person, it's almost black in dimly lit rooms and a clear wine red in daylight.
>>
>>64728945

It won't fall down, I'm pretty sober to make sure it doesn't. Just want to know if the change in temperature because of the AC does anything to affect the neck or body in general.

You can check if the tube is micro phonic by taking the end of a pencil while the amp is on, and tapping on the tubes lightly. If you hear noise you know its the tube.

all wigglesticks make your guitar go out of tune; that's literally what they're for.

Bigsbys are more difficult than others to restring, and suffer from some instability with regard to returning to tune or maintaining consistent tuning when the vibrato bar isn't actually in use.

the best advice I have is to try both. Try to pay attention to whether or not the whambulator gets in the way when you play without using it.

Personally, I have one guitar with a jiggle bridge and I removed the actuation lever and inserted a shim to prevent its detuning on bends or what-have-you. It was fun to play around with when the instrument was new, but I eventually realized that it got in the way more often than not and it wasn't important to the music I was playing. If I need it back, I can remove the shim and reinsert the lever.

Fender Jag Bass
Amps: Peavey Pacer
Roland Bass Cube that I use as a vocal amp

I'd like to own them alongside my tele, although i'd be okay with just the tele for the rest of my life too, honestly

Hmmm... maybe some sub-set of punk? Perhaps, if not, shoegaze? I am interested to know, looks like a neat setup.

>>64734816

Not even sure what to guess... However, neat pick with the ditto, I'd like one too

Stoner rock
Alt rock
Garage rock
Shoe gaze
Post punk

I don't regret buying it but I'll probably take it out of my chain eventually. Right now I mostly use it to loop shit so I can play drums over it.
>>
>>64730624
Really depends on the position. If it's very close to the bridge, yeah. But if it's more towards the middle it can sound fine. Also, you don't have to be Jaco to make a single coil bridge PU sound good on a fretless.

What has to do having expensive gear with doing something productive? it wont change the fact that taxes for foreign products are pretty high over here

my point is that there are plenty of ways to get gear anyway. and if you're band isn't working, like >>64729815's, you can work your way around that too.

if you don't do anything for your scene, city, economy, etc. it's gonna be shit forever; and if you can't, well it's time to move the fuck away

noise rock and 80s power pop/alternative anon, but my biggest influences are shoegaze and sludge/doom bands so I guess you're right in the end haha

the picture I got from reverb, it's a Fender special run mexican Jazz bass in burgundy mist, I have a mexican Jazz bass I got when I was 16 that I repainted in burgundy mist as well but I had to take it last week to the luthier cause the paint was flaking off, I'm getting the headstock painted as well while I'm at it. He's notorious for taking a long time to do work but he said I should expect it by next week so I'll post pics by then.

Fiesta Red is a most dope custom color, I definitely want a Strat in that color (or Shell Pink). Also Frusciante is pretty good, I enjoyed pretty much all of his work through his tenure with RHCP. My favorite would have to be his stuff on BSSM though, so damn funky.

At the time I was bummed that I couldn't get the Surf Green to match my guitar but now you'd have to kill me in order to get my baby blu away from me. I don't have an acoustic amp yet as I wasn't expecting to throw a pickup in my Larrivee, so this is what it sounds like through my MESA Lonestar, basically makes my Larrivee sound kind of like a Telecaster's neck pickup.
>>
>>64738055
Lol, just figure out the theory at your own pace and do as much as you can with what you know. The first band I was ever in was an electric blues band and the only scales I knew were the minor pentatonic and blues scales, but I got a lot of mileage out of both of them when constructing riffs and solos (and no one is better at re-mixing a blues scale than Omar Rodriguez-Lopez). Later I put together a death metal group and most of what I came up with for that band (I wrote virtually all of the music for guitars and bass) was based around harmonic minor and diminished scales.

This is the first minute of a VERY rough demo for a song we've been working on. I play the melody on keys:

https://clyp.it/gss4gy4b

The end of the track is actually really cool. There's a two-bar syncopated bass/guitar/keys line that repeats for about a minute, then the keys drop out, the bass and rhythm guitar play this really intense E minor groove while I play a short (guitar) solo based around a series of diminished licks, then the whole thing resolves right back into the syncopated part with keys/bass/guitars. I would have posted it but the low-end during that section caused my phone recording to clip big time.

Didn't get any replies yesterday, does anyone have experience with Bacchus Instruments? There is a Bacchus BJ Jazzbass copy on sale here locally, from the late 90s, made in Japan. I've heard quite a bit of praise, are they comparable to a mia or more like a Mexican fender? He wants 450 bucks for it. Also, a road worn Mexican fender jazz bass for like 400-450 as well and a TUNE bass for 350 (also mij with the original pickups). I really need to upgrade my current bass and I'd like to know which one of these sound like a good deal.

Hey, so I just started playing about a year ago, I currently have a squier strat and a mustang II amp
I was planning on buying a squier mustang, what would be a good amp combo to buy on the cheap? What about pedals? Any good all-in -one pedals? My friend owns one with a foot pedal and a ton of effects, but would it be better just to get a pedal board and buy the effects/tones/whatever I want?
Could someone give an estimate on how much all of this would be? I can get the squier mustang for about 250 nearby.

I'm under conscription now, but I'm pretty much a failed soldier who has lots of time to meme on this lute playing thread.

Attending University, lots of free time. I just wish I was less of a lazy cunt and actually used it all for music and practice.

On one hand , it's good to exercise your pinky finger by using as often as you can. But since you're high on the neck, you should really use your ring finger instead. I don't see any flaws apart from that really.

This might sound weird but...

Whose your favorite guitarist waifu?

Mine is Orianthi.

Sometimes life just hands you the lemonade.
That said, you do have to see it coming and step into it's path.

Now that I have these Mesa cabs I kind of want a mini recto. Anyone go any experience with them?

not true
you simply bend the end of the string with your finger to make a hook. Restringing bigsby's is easy.

They do not cause any more tuning issues than other tremolo systems sans locking types. 95% of tuning issues are caused by strings binding at the nut and most guitars do not have well cut or lubricated nuts. Cut the nut right and put some pencil tip shavings in the slots or some other lube and they are very stable tremolo systems.

Im good on everything except for a decent guitar, I like the look of the RD but its way beyond my budget, I might swap out the DD20 for a DL4 though

You might keep an eye on Japan sites like buyee.jp where Roland tape delays are easy to score pretty cheap.

I also kinda want that analogue outfitters tremolo too if it weren't so expensive.
>>
>>64744302
yeah...sucks that they are so expensive. I wonder if it's easy to make one, I think its just the vibrato unit taken out of a hammond organ and rewired for use with guitar.

Tell me about your fiddle.
>>
>>64744348
I kinda think the whole aesthetic is a major part of the high price. Might be a fun project. A guy on a gear site I hang out at bought one, seems like he's pretty happy with it.

>buyee.jp
wow, you aint joking

theres two 301s on it right now for $350-400
they're usually $1000-1500 in the US
>>
>>64744478
Yeah, I've bought a bunch of gear from there. The fees arent too bad either. Check out the prices on Binson echorec too, pretty awesome deals to be had.
>>
>>64744547
wtffff

288 dollars for an echorec

i can't make out the engrish though, dunno if it functions

are you talking about the yahoo japan auction or is there more? I can't seem to work this site that well.

>>64744435
Same guitar, same color combo, except I've got the mother of pearl pick guard. Honestly, I'd rather just have a flat white.
>>
>>64743836
Friend of mine gigs with one exclusively now - doesn't use his dual recto anymore.
Sounds great and since his band always mics up, it's actually easier to get a great sound without the extreme volume
>>
>>64744660
Uhhh, I pretty much stick to buyee anymore. There are other brokerage services or whatever they are called that do the same thing with similar fees. It's just a middle man for I think the yahoo auction, you buy it through them...the item is shipped from the seller to their warehouse, and when you at ready the warehouse ships it to you. Pro tip, warehouse will hold your item(s) until you are ready...so if you are buying other stuff from other sellers etc. you can take as long as you want and then have it all shipped at once to save on the final shipping cost. I've just copy pasted to translate stuff.

Don't know much about violins. I know it's Chinese, and I got it for 31 euros including bow, hard case, and resin. The violin itself was 10 euros. Breaks my balls to tune it but I changed the strings and it doesn't sound like shit any more. I'm considering getting one of those stickers that show where the frets would be until my fingers get used to the smaller distance between notes.
>>
>>64744821
those stickers are a godsend for someone learning violin. Just make sure you place them right

also violin is pretty much the hardest instrument to learn, good luck
