Controversial opinion time: YWNKW is one of my favorite albums of all time and it's IMO much better than VDC. VDC is still excellent but way too bloated.

Maybe darla records just didn't know how the fuck to market this, which is probably it, or maybe people just weren't ready to accept this at the time.
Maybe if they released YWNKW first, they would've taken off. Who knows. It's just kind of tragic they don't at least inhabit the same space in public conscious of, say, the flaming lips, or the avalanches or something like that.

When VDC is good, it's really fucking good. The first two tracks, Pro : Lov: Ad, and all the shoegaze-leaning tracks are 10/10, 9/10 at the very least. My one problem with it is that the rest are boring in comparison - not bad, just not 10's.

I used to not be able to deal with the length of VDC and yeah some of the songs do go on longer than they have to but at this point it doesn't really bother me, I just enjoy getting lost in the sound too much. It's not an album I can listen to as a whole too often but every once in a while I get reminded of why I fell in love with it all over again. YWNKW is good but the vocals are pretty mediocre on it and the melodies aren't particularly catchy. I know it's easy to say that someone might only find it underwhelming in comparison to VDC but I actually feel like I would like it less if I didn't have such good opinions on Sweet Trip.

I dont think ive agreed more with any post on /mu/ before more than this one. VDC is probably the one of the only albums that id give a 10. YWNKW is amazing as well, and I almost never see people talk about it on its own.
