Pop country is bad, but a good bit of "classic" country is pacha.jpg and most alt-country is good (if you like alt/indie rock)
>>
Country died with Zevon and Cash
>>
>>64592449
it is objectively, i'm being completely serious, I read this article about these math/music people who put together all of these statistics on harmonic motion within a given song. and contemporary country harmonic motion within a song was so mathematically similar to 40's-50's country, from a mathematical standpoint, contemporary country has not moved on from the 40s 50s. shit, i wish i had the article on my computer, it was really interesting

Also Country is a good example of music as a fashion. There are a lot of women attracted to the image.

Also look at Darius Rucker. He was writing average pop. They tweaked that shit with a little twang and now he's a country's Tiger Woods.

Say what you will about he misogyny in Country music but it's a fact that for every female rapper, there are 100 fully dressed women in Country. And for every female rocker, there are at least 10 fully dressed Country women artists who don't have to shake their bare asses or git all up on the Twitters like the attention starved sluts in Pop. Women in Country are given a fair chance to express themselves creatively. More-so than in Jazz. More so than in Classical. Take that other genres.

Listening to Sweetheart of the Rodeo really changed my attitude about country for the better. It's a magical album especially the versions of the tracks with the Parsons vocals.

But, unfortunately, modern country isn't like Sweetheart of the Rodeo. My least favorite genre of modern music is dubstep.
>>
>>64593300
>classism

Most "country" people that I know are actually very well off. They all live in McMansions, own lots of land, and those trucks are expensive. Hillbillies and rednecks are more on the poor side, but hicks are usually just rich white people with southern accents and confederate flag license plates.
>>

>>64594656
no one could. top 40 country is trash. so is most top 40 pop and top 40 rock. for some reason /mu/ thinks that Country begins and ends with mainstream Country. and for some reason the only legit Country threads on /mu/ begin and end with Traditional Country. It's laziness. no one wants to do the work and research and dig and find the good stuff. everyone just wants to be spoonfed.
>>
It's on the same tier as electro-swing, deep minimal house, and indie folk.
>>
>>64594248
I'm not picking apart the /fa/shion of country supporting women. I'm not sjw-ing some shit.

Women love the look of country rather than the actual musical content. Moreover the musical content is so simple and repetitive it resides with plebs.

There are tons of smoking girls that love the stuff and all they care about is finding beefed up men with boots, a dog, and a truck.
>>
>>64594734

TVZ is actually good which is why it sucks that hipsters have now only taken to him to fulfill this "good country" quota for eclectic-points
>>
>>64594841
>There are tons of smoking girls that love the stuff and all they care about is finding beefed up men with boots, a dog, and a truck.

Which is oddly funny because most of those kinds of men believe in "traditional" shit and will most likely treat them as inferior. These women think they're getting a fairy tale, but really they're just about to be some guy's maid while he gets fat and verbally abuses her.

God Bless America.

No shit. The whole point is that with country there is not a legitimate attempt at artistry happening. What is used are usually the most basic and uncreative progressions that are "good" or "right". While this has been done traditionally, it is obvious now that "pop" country has not progressed at all as a genre and is not advancing itself and neither is it being used as an attempt of genuine expression. If you want to listen to country music and you like it, fine, but don't pretend that it's worth anything musically just because "muh traditionally good"

The country thing is 100% a fashion image. The amount of women I know who are obsessed with dressing/acting/listening to country who grew up in a suburb and worked at Forever 21 is staggering. The whole muddin' and sittin' in a truck bed starin' at the stars thing is only a reality to those who actually grew up in rural areas. The country & western bar with a live band and two-stepping is essentially the same as a 50's diner: it's a kitsch theme. Nothing annoys me more than the faux-country meme here in Dallas. It's like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes with their floppy hat "ma and pa" nonsense.

Say what you want about pop country fashion trends, but it has been instrumental in getting girls to wear cut-off jean shorts and cowboy boots. If you ever go to a country show or a county fair, you'll be amazed at the amount of girls wearing designer cowgirl boots. It's funny, because you can tell that most of these bitches have never done a day's worth of farm work or any other manual labor in their lives. Still, cowboy boots + short jean shorts is a great combination for showing off legs and ass. God bless the USA.

>all they care about is finding beefed up men with boots, a dog, and a truck.
>most of those kinds of men believe in "traditional" shit and will most likely treat them as inferior

THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT.

Most women actually hate this "equal treatment" and "women can do everything men can do" and "stop holding my hand I can take care of myself" attitude that modern "progressive" women today are spreading, because it means that now they actually are expected to take care of themselves, be respectable, get a job, have a personality, etc. in addition to guys starting to prefer women they don't have to babysit that can actually tell a good joke or help lift a bookshelf once in a while.

They long for the days when it was okay to be a lazy stay-at-home housewife who has everything taken care of for her by a big strong man. They long for the kind of men who like doing manual labour work all the time that makes them physically robust, instead of desk work that makes a guy pale and/or skinny. The kind of men that dominate and own wild animals (or domestic ones), instead of the city guy who maybe has a cat or no pets. The kind of men who prefer to go for a drive or go outside and get dirty or drink and party hard for fun, instead of playing video games or viewing art or watching movies. Basically, the kind of man that comes from a less-evolved society, possibly so that they match up better intellectually as well.

Alt Country is a nebulous genre. You'll find everything in there from straight up Country to Folk to Pop to Rock to R&B to Jazz. The term Alt Country is just an umbrella like how Bob Dylan is categorized as Rock even though he hasn't made a legitimate rock album in ages.

It's a shame that something as broadly defined as Country revealed itself as such through the progression of musical history but unfortunately to my relatively intricate knowledge of the ins and outs of musical aesthetics country has progressed to be a genre that is basically futile towards established artistic merits. Please, though, by all means attempt to justify it's existence in the grand scheme of music as it is currently.
