in a time when you were in middle school or elementary school, there was a 'subgenre' just like vaporwave called chillwave. The portlandia theme is made by Washed Out, one of the prominent chillwave artists of that time. I'd say the genre ran from ~2008-2011? Before witch house took over... but thats another story. The 'aesthetic' was 80s chill nostalgia, where vaporwave's goes a decade ahead into corporate 90s.
some other notable artists were Toro Y Moi, Panda Bear (see: person pitch), washed out, uh.. i enjoyed Brothertiger, i know jai paul had one i think.. i forget a lot of them cause i dont listen much anymore
