Let's discuss some of their lesser known songs/albums. I've been getting into Adult/Child recently, I really like "Games Two Can Play" and "Still I Dream Of It". Are there any bootlegs worth looking into? Best Smile Bootleg? Also post your top 5 lesser-known/rare beach boy tracks and others guess what your personality is like irl.
>She Knows Me Too Well
>When A Man Needs A Woman
>All I Wanna Do
>What Is A Young Girl Made Of
>Honkin' Down the Highway (although all of Love You is great)
Also post rare beach boys/brian pics if you got 'em
Good choice in boots, OP. I have that one myself.
There's a good Brian boot called Sweet Insanity, that's worth checking out if you can find it.
I'm sure somebody will advise you on what the best Smile boot is.
Who was the better rapper? Mike or Brian?

Brian has inventive samples and confident delivery, but Mike has a very smooth flow and odd swagger
>>64592194
Fall Breaks and back to Winter is one of my favorite "forgotten" songs
>>64592870
I've always thought this song would go really well with one of the rides in Toon World at Disneyland
>>64592750
mega/zips on leggo my ego and sweet insanity?
>>64592194
even though it's on pet sounds, I always felt you still believe in me got unfairly overlooked
Landlocked is essential Sunflower-era boot. Also check out Lei'd in Hawaii.
Which part does Bri sing on All I Wanna Do? Wikipedia lists Mike love and Brian as lead vocalists.
All I Wanna Do is a fantastic song, is the rest of the album worth a listen?
>>64593445
isn't it a Surf's Up boot?
>>64593478
During the chorus "my love is burning brightly" part
>>64593555
yeah definitely, that album has some great writing from more than just Brian. Denise's Forever is on there. There are a couple cheesy tracks but its the beach boys so what do you expect
>>64593555
Everything Love you and prior is worth listening to.
Sunflower is the best BB album after SMiLE and Pet Sounds.
>>64593589
Great, thanks.
>>64593555
This whole World is an incredible piece of pop and Dennis' songs are pretty good with the exception of the hilariously dated Got to Know the Woman. As always skip anything Brice Johnston wrote.
>>64593445
H.E.L.P. Is On The Way is amazing.
Goofy Brian is the best.
>>64593589
No love for Friends? I'd put that above Sunflower but they're a close match
>>64593625
what about Disney Girls (1957)?
>>64593616
And obviously it goes without saying, listen to all of Brian the GOAT's songs
>>64593649
Disney Girls is a nice piece of schmaltz. You got me, anon. That's a decent one. Nice vocal melody.
>>64593625
>Dierdre
>bad
>>64593555
sunflower good tracks
slip on through
add some music
its about time
all I wanna do
Forever
cool water
>>64593700
Bad but not Tears level bad
>>64593726
The fuck? This Whole World?
>>64593726
Every track is good.
also At My Window is amazing.
>>64593700
>>64593738
>>64593762
skippable:
whole world
tears in the morning
dierdre
got to know the woman
our sweet love
at my window (debatable)
just too cheesy/dated
>>64593586
It's an early version of Surf's Up, though most of the songs on it were written during Sunflower. So kind of.
>>64593649
Friends is amazing. Maybe their comfiest album.
>>64593802
I would recommend At My Window for the sole fact that they're are some incredibly beautiful vocal bits in there.
>>64593805
>>64593649
call me crazy, but I really fee like "I Went to Sleep" from 20/20 shouldve been put on Friends instead.
>he skips tracks on sunflower
>>64592826
kek are these real?
>>64592194
The Beach Boys have been my favorite band for a long long time before /mu/ and pop culture rediscovered Brian and reddit hopped on his dick after Love and Mercy, when I saw him recently it was full of young hipsters that barely knew who he was
Anyway my top five fav at the moment:
All This is That
Wouldn't It Be Nice to Live Again
Girl Don't Tell Me
You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone
I'd Love Just Once to See You
>>64592750
Sweet Insanity is good, especially Do you Have Any Regrets (I Do). So is the Paley sessions from that era.
>>64593445
Landlocked was a fan creation according to Stephen Desper, as are the Add Some Music fan albums. At one point Sunflower was probably under the working title Add Some Music, but there was never meant to be an album called or in the order of the Landlocked fan album. Lei'd in Hawaii is essential
>>64593897
20/20 is underrated and I Went To Sleep, while psychedelic, and written after Brian was institutionalized in 1968 and given Thorazine, is far from the best song. The Carl Wilson produced I Can Hear Music and Time To Get Alone, which were both successful, are very representative of this era for me
Does this count?
>>64595274
It's a good comp but as far as comps go, Endless Summer, which came before it, is better
>>64595296
I inherited it from my dad
It's pretty good but I haven't had the time to really get into pre pets sounds Beach boys

bump
just while we have actual beach boys fans in here: mono or stereo for pet sounds?
>>64597223
the only answer is mono for the stuff that was originally released on mono, until you get to the later albums, although i have heard some good stereo mixes
>>64597223
mono because brian did a lot of mix downs during the sessions so in the conversion to stereo some parts were lost or not transferred so the stereo version isnt a 1:1 counterpart
>>64597223
it sounds amazing in stereo, dont care what anyone says
>>64597223
stereo 3BH
>>64595237
What do you think of Brian's self-titled solo album? The production can get tiring after a while, but IMO the songwriting is fantastic. A lot of people criticize his singing in the era (calling him "shouty Brian") but I really enjoy it.
>>64597223
I've never listened to the stereo version
This thread is glorious boys. Let us not forget how amazing Oh Lord and I Feel So Fine from the Cocaine Sessions are:

great album desu (recc'ing the 2004 reissue with bonus tracks)

In the back of my mind is superb
>>64593625
m8, Deirdre is one of my favs on Sunflower
>>64597223
I know people are trying to be purist and say "that's how Brian envisionned it" about mono but seriously, the stereo version of Pet Sounds sounds AMAZING.

Where do i get it
