I have over 3tb of music. Pretty much a catalog of classical, jazz, pop, and whatever really.
Basically my grandpa is one of those people who is a real audiophile. He spends his retirement drawing out circuit and shit for speakers, and speaker setups. He has like these crazy expensive hand crafted drivers from France and all other sorts of equipment.
He decided one day he was sick of manually putting in discs and shit, so he compiled all of his cds (he had a massive fucking collection) along with anything the family added.
he sent all the discs off to some company and they sent back a drive full of songs in .aiff format mainly(Haven't checked all the files). I cloned the drives for various family members for him, and helped him set up a home network so he can access all that shit from his various audio setups around his house.
So that's how I ended up with with a hard drive with more music playtime than I have lived in minutes.

I think the original idea was that no one actually listens to all of the songs in their library. In other words, if you had 10,000 songs, a large portion of them get listened to once and never again while a much smaller portion would be replayed frequently.
If someone can find the time to regularly listen to 12,000 songs, well, that's pretty impressive.
