Proud to be British was a masterpiece

Arca can't write a song for Dick

Ferraro is my dad

I'm thinking we'll still talk about Ferraro

>>
>>64539335
arca is just a technician
opn has some cool stuff, his early work is a lot better than the shit he is doing now, hasnt really pushed any boundries
blunt has a couple of sweet songs but his quirkness wears off easily and ends up just sounding retarded
ferraro is the ultimate hack in music i've ever heard of, completly soulless music
"art" for the sake of being art, fuck him
>>
>>64539664
if that steaming pile of shit is his second best, what do you think that says about his future as a musician?

OPN yes

the whole thing was so disjointed

are you talking about far side virtual and vaporwave? because most vaporwave follows the templates of macintosh and eccojams: chopped and screwed samples, very little compositional input. very few albums followed fsv's template

>>64539335
opn probably since he will have achieved the most commercial success. (i think dean and ferraro are more interesting conceptually however their music is routed and tied very specifically to culture of the late 2000s or 10s). arca even more so i doubt he will be talked about much even 3 years from now-- he hit the nose of that 2014core sound but is on his way out. ferraro and blunt have shown theyre adaptable and capable of creating and following trends. opn has reached a level of popularity he can release anything and people will pay attention.
>>
>>64542610
james ferraro

Probably OPN, mostly because he didn't instantly go to shit once vaporwave happened.

this. Lopatin has the most staying power. People will still remember the other 3 just not as big as lopatin. Kinda like aphex twin and ae,squarepusher, etc.
>>
Probably OPN. Arca is more well known (and is better) as a producer for other people it seems and that makes it harder to stay relevant. Also maybe Dean Blunt.

I don't know who top left is. I might know the name but not the face...

Ferraro and Blunt will be remembered.

OPN and Arca are hot right now because they make tons of unlistenable bullshit that you want other people to know you listen to, but they will fade away as their music has no staying power.
>>
>itt /mu/ misunderstands staying power

Kanye will be remembered, as will Radiohead. Most of the stuff in here will not.

Death Grips, Grimes, Lopatin, Arca, FKA Twigs (srsly?) etc will fade once the cultural context they existed in fades.

None of them have made enough of a cultural splash to reasonably assume they'll be remembered.

I guarantee trying to converse with someone about Arca almost two decades from now outside of a board like this one would be very difficult.
>>
>>64539335
cum
>>
>>64548505
they'll definitely have their niche fanbases, though. i can see opn, ferraro, etc being electronic figures like scanner or smth
>>
>>64548545

Oh certainly, I wouldn't want artists like them to be forgotten, I do think they will be remembered for being important contributors to their respective genres and emblematic of a certain time and prevailing taste.

But as far as artists who will be discussed widely in 2035? Hard to say. I'm really just chatting outta school here.
>>
>>64548505

>I guarantee trying to converse with someone about Arca almost two decades from now outside of a board like this one would be very difficult.

m8 conversing with someone about Arca NOW outside of a board like this one is very difficult

fuck two decades
>>
>>64548320
I wish I could take you into the future to show you how fucking wrong you are dude.
Ferraro and Blunt are literally whos right now which means literally no one will know who they are in ten years and they don't have anything besides these obscure album concepts for people to get behind.
I like Dean and Ferraro but they are fucking tied to the concept of using music as a means of commentary and that commentary is useless without the context its completely useless.
That's why despite how much great stuff Ferraro has made, the only thing people talk about are Nightdolls, Farside and The Skaters even though he's made a ridiculous amount of cool stuff.

OPN and Arca on the other hand are releasing actual albums that don't use commentary in such a bludgeoning way.
>>
>>64548839
First dean is talentless hack.Second Ferraro is not famous YET but he will be in the future because his pre fsv music will be closer to the future than anyone else.It will just take a little bit of a time to get discovered like loveless.
>>
opn > arca > ferraro >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> blunt
>>
none of them.
>>
>>64548505
I can guarantee there are young artists or people in pre-fame stage of life that see Death Grips as a massive influence. You ever heard about how no one cared about Velvet Underground, but the few people who bought their records started a band? Obviously hyperbole but I feel it's the same case with Death Grips. Definitely one of the most important acts of our era.
