The Doors. You should read Conversations With The Dead where Jerry Garcia completely picks them apart.

Dave Matthews Band. Dear god, Dave Matthews Band. Here in Ohio, they're virtually deified but God knows why. A third-rate E Street Band copy. Watered-down midlife crisis jazz rock for the #ALLLIVESMATTER crowd.

New Kids On The Block. Seriously what the fuck.

>bunch of 40-something dudes can put on a tour in 2015 and still have Botoxed MILF groupies throwing their panties at them

These guys have aged as well as a carton of milk left in a hot car. I mean, come on. Hangin' Tough was an okay pop song in 1988, but cripes, it should be left in that era where it belongs.

NKOTB sucked in the 80s and they suck even more every time they have a nostalgia tour to get 40 year old women swooning over them.

Springsteen is absolutely marginal as a vocalist and guitarist (he needs one of the best backing groups in the world to make him sound remotely decent).

Pink Floyd after TW stopped existing. The Final Cut has good songwriting but not good songs. DSOTM and The Wall are horribly overplayed and we're all completely burned out on them.

On the other hand, their earlier albums are quite well-crafted and even a prog hater would have a hard time disliking them. And go back to the first album which is a very nice slab of hippie psychedelia.
>>
Eminem has 7 major label releases and exactly two good albums among them.
>>
>>64524903
not to mention a shit tonne of mediocre features
>>
>>64524903

>Jay-Z

Argue all you want, but most rappers who didn't die prematurely put out mostly shit.
>>
>>64524986
>who didn't die prematurely

Hendrix's discography is meh at best if we're counting posthumous stuff.
>>
>>64524986
Are there any really wtf Jay-Z albums except Kingdom Come? He's rarely been terrible while Eminem has at least 3 absolutely terrible albums.

The point is as >>64522885 said, that Em is far from the best rapper of his era.

Good point and no, Jay-Z has never made anything as mindbendingly awful as Em's post-2002 stuff. However, I don't really care for Vol 1, Dynasty, the Best of Both Worlds stuff if you feel like counting that, and I doubt Blueprint 3 or Magna Carta will in be considered anything better than “fair/mediocre” when they’ve had enough time to be properly evaluated. I prefer Slim Shady LP to any of those aforementioned Jay tracks. I guess I’d just argue that most rappers have their fair share of bad music, and even if only 25% of Eminem’s music is good, that 25% was still so good that he’s properly rated.
>>
Gwen Stefani. Her voice grates me and somehow practically all of her songs manage to irritate me in some way.
>>
>>64522697

I didn't care much at all for Springsteen, and then I saw him on his Born In The USA tour.

Changed everything.

The guy played an AMAZING concert.
>>
>>64525301
How old are you?
>>
>>64525330

What's that got to do with anything?

Is there an upper limit on being a /mu/tant?

No, and no.

>>
I'll bite on Eminem. MMLP and TES are god-level albums, SSLP is pretty good and even Relapse has its moments, but like most rappers, he ran out of stuff to rap about and even said so himself. I mean, he's still had good songs and verses from time to time but he can't put together a good album anymore.
>>
>>64525401
I've never heard of Mannheim Steamroller. Is that an American-only thing?

Well, some people could say that about Nas. I've heard it argued that Illmatic is his only truly great album and I think it's hard to argue that it's not the Led Zeppelin IV or Let It Bleed of hip-hop. I think Stillmatic is great as well and Life Is Good is also a gem. Otherwise, I would concur that most of his catalog is useless.

Biggie died before he could become the villain.

Pac has had so much posthumous material released that he's harder to judge, though I think MATW is the only true classic released in his lifetime. Then again, I don't know his catalog all that well so if you think he's 75% mediocre, I won't argue with you.

Jay-Z, lyl. If he retired with the Black Album then nah. But Kingdom Come, Blueprint 3, MCHG, Blueprint 2, Vol 1, half of Vol 2…just saying, Jigga’s got a fair bit of fluff. So you can make a case for him too.

Snoop Dogg? One album wonder.

Scarface and Ghostface are like the two most consistent rappers. They’re exceptions to the rule.

UGK/Outkast bowed out with pockets full of classics. I think maybe they each have one bad album (Dirty Money and Idlewild, which, while not amazing, weren’t terrible either)

I don’t really know KRS-One or Rakim outside of their classic albums.

Common. Eh, yeah, I think you could say 75% of his stuff is fair or below, but he’s not very modern. Dude’s been around forever.

Kanye. C’mon. That’s just asking for a shitstorm.

Drake and Nicki. Ugh. Nicki has one good verse (Monster) and I hate Drake, so I can’t say anything without being super biased. Drake’s the John Cusack of rap.
>>

Second to Dylan, Springsteen is America’s poet laureate when it comes to RnR.
Pearl Jam (sorry Nirvana fans) was always the best grunge band and the only of the Seattle bands to still be touring with the original lineup.

The Doors…were a thing. A big thing. One of the best selling Greatest Hits of all time. They encapsulated counterculture-era Los Angeles. Nothing wrong with that.

CSNY were/are among the greatest harmony rock groups of all-time. Find me another band with the songwriting/vocal/guitar chops of Stills/Young/Crosby.

Pink Floyd are a genre by themselves.
>>
>>64526144

YES!

I have some friens who really dig The Dead, and love listening to god awful tapes of shows.

I cringe every time they play one of those tapes.

I mean seriously, how many versions of Sugar Magnolia do you need to hear?

They have a near encyclopedic knowledge of this shit. "The 1982 show at such and such has the best version of Morning Dew."

It boggles my mind.

I rather assume there is a similar phenomenon with Phishheads.

I can't stand to listen to any Phish, either.

With the exception of a single tune, "Demand". Not quite sure why, but that one works for me.
