Going through a 410 cabinet, how much power do I need as a bassist to play rock and maybe some melodic death metal? My current cab can do 1000W peak and 500W RMS (8Ohm), I'm thinking about either buying the little Mark 3 (500W) or the 800W version. Keep in mind the Mark 3 can only do 500W at 4 Ohm, at 8Ohm it's just 300W.

So basically, do I need more than 300W through a 410 cabinet? Is the difference between 300W vs 500W big through the same cab? In both cases I could add a 210 later down the line, so worst case I have a 610 stack at 500W.

They become muffled and nearly mute compared to when I go up the ladder. Someone know a trick or a video which explains the thing in detail good?

Hey stringfags,
i want to build my own bass. As i don't want to bore you with details, you should know I don't know much about it, but I have a dream.
I need one humbucker for 4-string with alot of depth and much low tones. I prefer handmade stuff just for fun.
In the end the bass should sound like a sinking submarine full of crying people waiting to rot away at the ground of the atlantik.
Can you recommend me something that could help?

From what I've read the 300W should be enough from the rumble 410, and I could add a 115 or another 210 later down the line for the full 500W. But now I also found the rumble 500 head, similar price as the markbass LM3, it has an overdrive circuit but the markbass has the 2 filters on board. I already have a fuzz pedal for proper distortion, I'm not sure if I'll really need the overdrive function.

Does anyone have a preference on these 2 amps? Which one and why?

So I've been playing for 6 years playing with guitar rig 5 and lately jamup on iPad, but I want to upgrade now and I don't know what to get, an amp (I live in apartment so a tube amp is not an option I think) or an audio interface (scarlett 6i6 or 18i8) what do you guys recommend? Is the 6i6 + bias desktop a good option or an orange crush 60w solod state? I mostly play death metal and I only would be recording guitars

>>
>>64474034
I have a Markbass LM1 (earlier version) and I never needed to push it past mid volume/gain during practice (and this one is "only" 450W). I would take it over the rumble head any day. Onboard OD is never really needed on a SS amp if you have pedals that'll do the same job. The 2 EQ filters on MB amps can be pretty useful on the other hand.

>>64474423
Okay, good to know. Thanks for your input, but I suppose your older amp was still made in italy, I'll have to see some reports how the newer stuff (made in indonesia) holds up to that or maybe snag one up that was still made in italy.

What are some pedals I should check out (from anyone)?
>>
>>64474495
I said in the lsst thread that these kinds of guitars just look like plastic, but I do admire the fact that they tried hard to make more progressive guitars.

A lot of them had 3 pickups and "edgy" designs, two things you wouldn't look twice at today but I can imagine being considered quite weird in the 60s.

>>
>>64474119

>>
Do any of you any experience with Beneditto pickups? Planning to stick one in my strat
>>
>>64474689
Some are good, most are pieces of shit. The market for these guitars is pretty much inflated so if you're not paying at least $400 you're probably buying a total piece of shit.

I honestly wouldn't bother with Teisco. If you want a similar vibe but much higher quality I would go with Silvertone, Harmony, Kay, Hofner, Eko etc..

If you're a weaboo buy a Yamaha.
>>
>>64474804
The Teisco ss4l looks and sounds pretty killer, from what ive heard. And I would kill for a vintage Yamaha Samurai
>>
>>64474787
I had their floating pickup in an old archtop. Super clear sound, very "hi-fi" if that appeals to you then I would check them out.

I didn't know they made strat single coils, did you mean their Humbucker?
>>
>>64474868
Yeah that's one of the better ones, but still they're ridiculously overpriced. They should cost like $200 tops. They're pretty much low quality guitars, the only Teisco I've played that would hang with the higher quality brands is the Spectrum series and those sell for ridiculous prices too.
>>
>>64474537
That's a fair concern. Mine was made in Italy back when they were still manufacturing the PCB boards by hand; which is why mine weighs a fuckton. They then switched for a lightweight design with the LMII head. They began making LMIII heads in Indonesia somewhere in 2014, so if you catch one made before, it'll probably be made in Italy.
>>
>>64474899
yep, the humbucker
>>
>>64474964
Spectrum 5 goes for over 1k, requires 2 inputs and apparently doesnt even sound that good. A meme guitar for sure
>>
>>64474557
i had a windsor head for a bit. it was ok. i only payed 100 bucks for it though, i wouldn't bother with that cab. its pretty shit
>>
>>64474986
From what I've heard there are no real complaints about the made in Indonesia stuff, seems like they enforce proper quality control. And if the newer stuff is SMD then it's literally irrelevant anyway, whether the reflow solderer sits in indonesia or italy doesn't matter. I'll have to look that up as well.
>>
>>64475202

From my experience playing Teisco, Kingston, Harmony, Etc its pretty shitty body shape and neck shapes (thin 2.5 inch bodies being paired with baseball bat necks that are at least .75 of an inch higher than the bridge since the bottom of the neck is usually aligned with a bit undet the top of the body. Other than that the redeeming factor is that the pickups are amazing and since many of them are oddly shaped it makes it an exclusive and unique sound
>>
>>64475475
Haha I'm trying my best. Problem is Ibanez doesn't believe it's grease. They think it's from skin oil and won't take it back because the warrenty doesn't cover finishes
>>
>>64475251
>>64475413
>>64475475
SMD eliminates a fairly large part of the human element, at that point made in Italy or made in Indonesia shouldn't really make a difference, especially since they do the final quality control in Italy (as long as they're not slacking off over there/accepting lower standards)
>>
>>64475548

When you do a really hard bend at a high fret with a bridge like that, does the string slide on the bridge a bit? I wonder if that's why people say bridges like those are "smoother".
>>
>>64476690
literally just a guitar missing the E and A strings. no point unless you are maybe in a large country ensemble
>>
>>64476718

>>64476533
the intonation isn't exact like a TOM really, but you can get it to be completely useable.
Some after market ones are often shaped to account for intonation.
>>
>>64476809
m8, there's a point to having less strings. Namely, 4 strings, 4 fingers. You've got more chord voicings that are usable without worrying about muting. It might seem like a minor difference, but if you want to use more difficult chord voicings, at some speed you're gonna want fewer strings.
>>
>>64477028
or you know, you just don't strike the 2 lowest strings...if you can't handle muting or controlling your strumming hand, you sure as shit aren't worried about chord voicing.

Look at it this way: it's easier, so you can do whatever you are normally capable of on a guitar faster and neater. Besides, you don't honestly think that you can just adapt any strumming technique to not hit the outer two strings. I know a lot of guitar players aren't that into getting a variety of tones from your right hand, but those who are will appreciate using less strings when they try it, especially acoustic players.

I have an EUB at home and play a normal upright at my teachers place. Really can't compare the two, both in terms of price and also sound. I'd love the 5-string, I play 5-string electric bass almost exclusively and I know it's mandatory for many classical pieces (or an extension), so I'd love to try that out since I'm currently getting into more classical stuff and away from pure jazz.

not him but it's pretty easy if you mute the bass E with the tip of your index finger, and the treble E with either your pinky, index finger, or ring finger (depends on what chord you're playing)

Custom order of a Classic special 5, it has a mahagony body with a walnut top, ebony fretboard, 35'' scale. The pickups are Delano humbuckers, pre-amp and active 3-band EQ from Glockenklang (switchable to passive).
The only thing I could ask for are maybe 2 coil tap switches, one for each pickup. But that's super easy to add after the fact.

Been bugging you guys for a couple threads now but I think I got my wiring figured out, pic related.
Recap: I'm putting 2 stacked P90's and a GFS gold foil soapbar humbucker in a (what seems to be) 1989 korean Squier strat that I got for $40 off my boss, as well as upgrading the hardware and repainting it. Basically, is my wiring retarded or am I actually onto something? That 3-tier pot is a triple gang spin-a-split btw.
I've swapped pickups before but never wired shit from scratch, I'm excited.
>>
>>64482987
whoops, forgot to mention:
the blue/purple/red is just a representation of the red+white wires coming from each, and I know I didn't connect all the grounds but it's cluttered enough as is.
>>
>>64476690
I've got an Eastwood Tenor. It's really nice change of pace. the string spacing is wider than guitar so that takes a second to familiarize with, and the neck is small and comfy. Lot of fun trying tuneings etc. The stock pups sound pretty good, especially with dirt. Are hot. The Eastwood is a quality instrument, very inspiring.

What happened to free guitar tabs? I haven't played for a while, and now that I'm getting back into it, I'm seeing that a lot of sites that offered free guitar tabs now want me to buy some shitty TabPro app.

>>
>>64482987
There's no point to splitting stacked p90s except to hum cancel with the humbucker. The difference in tone is negligible. Rejoice, your wiring is way simpler. However I could see this being advantageous to maintain good hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4 when the coil split is halfway, assuming the output of the stacks is the same as your bucker. To me your diagram looks right, but if I were you I would post it on guitarnuts2.proboards.com. There's some guys there that like debugging these things for fun that are a lot better than I am.
>>
>>64488779
That sucks, Ive read a lot of people who complained that the original ditto suffered from being very poor quality and couldn't stand up to life on the road. Check bitcheslovemyswitches.com he sells quality parts for fair prices. Should be very simple to replace the stomps, and a lot cheaper than buying a new pedal...although the new x4 looks like a major upgrade in features over the x2.

>>
>>64490332
You don't have any problem with sliding noise? Whenever I shift my hand around (on my fretted bass) it causes so much noise, not sure how to get rid of it.
>>
>>64490398
I kind of like that noise, so I'll sometimes deliberately scrape down my roundwound strings on my thunderbird. I know it isn't always appropriate, though, so I mute properly when I don't want it.
>>
>>64490398
The problem is in your technique, you should practice more and pay close attention to hand noise.
>>
>>64490462
>>64490398
I think its less of a problem on a fretless, the only time I really get a lot of sliding noise is when im doing vibrato on a single note.
But I also think the noise lessens the longer you have the strings on, at this point both sets of strings for my basses are getting pretty old, right in between that point of replacement and great tone
>>
>>64490478
yea technique is defintely part of it too.
another problem i know a lot of bassists have is thumping in rhythm when your not playing something, say for a downbeat or something.
its hard to resist, and an easy mistake to make, but its definitely something you should not be doing.

It's a EBMM JP6 with different pickups. The Sterlings do not have Piezo.
I haven't played one of those but a friend of mine said they weren't anything special, nowhere near the real thing, which is reasonable due to the price difference.

>>
>>64492411
You can easily clean rust on the magnets but there's no point in doing so except for aesthetic purposes. As for the fretboard, it'd have to be some serious mold going on for it to be really damaged. More likely, you'll have to scrub off the dirt with naphta and apply lemon oil on it and perform a complete setup. Your only serious concern would be if the neck was warped, but there's no telling from just this picture.

Yup, a lot of the early folk/blues/country stuff was played on archtop guitars.

They're a little quieter than dreadnoughts, but still loud enough imo. I would recommend one with a floating pickup so it doesn't kill the acoustic sound by mounting the pickups directly into the top.
