I don't understand why this album got chosen for the "try-hard" meme. The melodies and harmonies are pretty well-defined and often times they're even catchy. There is definitely a bit of pop a sensibility in how they wrote many of the songs, which is why it's so effective juxtaposed against the albums themes.
