It's a laugh. It's not really that much about music, it's just Nick Hornby telling the same story about a guy who is an asshole and really likes something (in this case music) slowly learning to not be an asshole because of a girl he doesnt deserve likes him and in the end he's not an asshole.
It's enjoyable because the writer understands the male mindset very well and it makes the John Cusack a very relatable character.
The music stuff is cool as long as you don't take anything said too seriously because it does the same thing Nick Hornby and /mu/ does in which it thinks that strong opinions=fact
