indie pop? thats not avant garde. that literally popular music (daniel lopatin could be considered an avant garde performing the role of a pop musician if you stretch it)
i feel like with sound itself its impossible to be avant garde but in how you tihnk about it or use it in relation to ideas of use or purpose of sound you can be. traditional musics used by cultures throughout the world explore all types of sound. no "art musician" has made something thats beyond human normality or is actually strange to the human condition. its natural to hear and appreciate all sound or use it as a tool of spirituality or healing of some way. so nothing "Sounds weird" or is "beyond boundaries of sound or music" however ways of producing or sharing music might be?
obviously john cage, sound poetry, alvin lucier, luigi russolo etc in terms of conceptual music. its not avant garde sound but avant garde in concept.
i just always struggle to understand how people could think theres some narrow definition to sound when people throughout the world naturally have always created sounds of all sorts and it is a very white supremecist view to think it takes aone single master creative genius or something
That's easy. Kanye, Radiohead, Death Grips, etc. Just check the /mu/core chart, this board has pretty avant garde taste in music to begin with.
