I listened to Pavement so much in my freshman year of college. I don't look for bands that sound like them because it's not my favorite genre or sound or anything, but it obviously had a huge impact on my taste.

i remember hearing mpp at 13 years old and it goot me into looking at all the shitty buzzbands on the internet and really from then on spent all my free time listening or discovering music online

The strokes were the first "indie" band I got into and a major force in making me explore new rock music besides just green day
Then in freshmen year I sat next to this kid I was friendly with in middle school in my English class and we became best friends (in a group of 3 other guys that were all each other's best friends) and he showed me mbv(loveless) and arcade fire(funeral) and diiv(oshin was still fairly new) and those all became pretty important first steps into music

Jeff Buckley's Grace was all I listened to as a mopey teen. The break in So Real was my real taste of acceptable ugly guitar noise. Probably helped me get out of a lot bland indie white boy rock.
