Half of the /mu/ chart is depressing so have fun with that. For example
Brand New - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
Spiritualized - Ladies And Gentlemen We're Floating in Space
Have A Nice Life - Deathconsciousness
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
Elliot Smith - Either/Or
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
The Antlers - Hospice
Beck - Sea Change
Alice in Chains - Dirt (or their self-titled album)
Based on his then-wife's experience with depression

I know the vocals can be grating at first, but if you give it a chance you'll be hard pressed to find a more rewarding album from recent years

I second just about any album by Weezer. I like "Only in Dreams" on the blue album though. If you play it with good speakers/headphones, by the solo, it will make the hair on your arms stand up and it'll change any issues you have into a desire to either punch a hole in the wall or scream. I'm not sure if that's better, but it's good for a temporary distraction.
