I think he was probably a talented musician but I know what you're getting at here. I think think the intense media on his death is more about 80s and 90s nostalgia than his musical talent. Most of the music that they talk about is his early 80s hits, purple rain, etc. I can't remember hearing a new Prince song on the radio in 20 years. He made records, but not really hits, apart from his early success.
