Thanks a lot, I'm studying french and I know already some of these sigers like Gainsbourg whom I adore, later this day I will check out all the bands!
I'm not by all means a connoisseur of French music, but when I was learning French, I found these to be good:
La Femme
Aline
Granville
Jacqueline Taieb
I find that It's hard to get into music from another language because you're not branching out from music that you normally like in the same way(by finding similar artists), but you're more or less starting at the tip of an iceberg and shotgunning through a bunch of stuff seeing what sticks.
I should learn French. Is there a really great online source for learning French?

I have no idea, I'm studying french philology on university and never used any site.
>>64335937
and nowadays they are all using english so it's even harder to find someone who will match with your taste and will use french at the same time
P-Town - Jazzy Bazz is a pretty good hip-hop album

duolingo will help you learn but it can't be your only resource. rosetta stone is okay for some languages, check what people say about it

Rosetta Stone is awful.
If you want free, tag team Duolingo with Memrise. Another interesting, albeit expensive(unless you get it at a library or torrent it) is Pimsleur.

That's also annoying. I hate that English-speaking countries refuse to listen to music in other languages. Artists often end up conforming to that language in order to get any widespread popularity.

Diabologum - #3 (1995)
Essential noisy French rock/post-rock https://youtu.be/zYtWFiPvVAA
Fauve
They might be cringe-inducing sometimes but I can't stop liking their blend of emo & chanson https://youtu.be/519_pOvP9xs
Klub des Loosers aka Fuzati
Funny lyrics (lot of puns) https://youtu.be/4YakN5J3SxY
Renaud (pick his early songs only)

Les Calamités https://youtu.be/khBUmdvom9o
Salut C'est Cool!
Imagine Marc DeMarco doing silly '90s dance

Bertrand Burgalat (Tricatel label head & producer: Stereolab-tier) & A.S. Dragon (future Phoenix)

+ solo artists
Jean-Louis Murat
He made dozens of albums, so I couldn't really recoment one in particular: he usually blends rock, folk, baroque/pop, ambient or adopt a different styles in the next release… with poetic lyrics.

https://youtu.be/Y4mp8LmjB5U
https://youtu.be/zYKVJCAPy_A
Philippe Katerine
Sometimes goofy but he writes witty songs most of the time https://youtu.be/4WbY1V-hnaw
Lio ( https://youtu.be/Q9uZneuU8jI
Sébastien Tellier https://youtu.be/j2RP1bUy3B4

Dude, you forgot four of the most important singers, being Bashung, Renaud, Georges Brassens and Jean Ferrat. Otherwise, it's a strong list to start.
We also got good rappers but it depends on your taste.
Some exemples of the ones I named:
