I'm not a big fan of his music because on record it's boring, but I saw him perform live as the Atlas Sound, and he's one of the greatest solo artists I've ever seen perform live. It's a whole different experience, his genius with what he does doesn't convert well to record, I don't think.
Also, on the My Sharona incident, after seeing how much sound/noise means to his live performance, I feel like seeing his drone interpretation of My Sharona would've actually been really cool, I don't think I would've felt cheated at all. At the very least, given how much attention that incident got, everyone who was there can feel like they got to be part of rock history.
