ITT: Musician's whose death will cause the opposite reaction to that of Prince/Bowie
>>
There are a lot of U2 fans out there so his death would cause an even bigger reaction.
>>
sunglasses sales would plummet
>>
>>64299482
>U2 fans
lol ok anon keep dreaming zzzzzzzzzz
>>
i wonder how the guys from the U Talkin' U2 to Me? podcast would react
>>

>There are a lot of U2 fans out there so his death would cause an even bigger reaction.
I'm pretty sure most are just casual fans. It used to be cool for 40 somethings to say they liked U2 about 10-15 years ago, but not so much anymore. They have far more haters than fans at this point. Especially Bono himself.

Do you guys seriously think Bono would get the same reaction as Thatcher?
>>
U2 is a great band. 80% of the Bono haters don't ACTUALLY know why they hate him.
>>
Maybe this is picking the low-hanging fruit, but...
>>
So many people are gonna be pumped when Gene Simmons dies
>>
Actually I'm not sure if Bono would get the inverse reaction as Prince/Bowie. Regardless, I think he's an alright singer. U2 was pretty good in the 80's then became meh later on as they got more and more pretentious and egotistical.
>>
>>64299815
>>64299881
Yeah but by the time Bono dies most of his fans will be in nursing homes. He has virtually no appeal with the current social media using generation.
>>
>>64299559
Do you even know what the ticket sales was for the 360 Tour?

Highest grossing Tour of all time
Highest Attended Tour of all time

7.2 million tickets sold. Yeah..their fan base is waning.
>>
>>64299982
I think any cache he might have gained with Millenials was totally ruined by force-downloading their new album onto people's iTunes.
>>
>>64299988
That was before their iTunes scandal. Latest tour only had 1.2 million tickets sold.
>>
He'd just cause a lot fighting over whether he was talented or a hack.
>>
>>64300082
Why does U2 get the blame for this.
It was done by Apple and Tim Cook.
>>
dude u2 sucks lmao
>>
>>64299971
lol your kidding right? the people that like him will love him more and the people that hate him will go "he wasn't that bad" .
>>
>>64300136
Latest Tour was and Arena Tour with less shows. You can bet real money that after "Songs of Experience" drops and if they do an Stadium Tour...it will sell out just like 360 did with similar numbers if the band goes that large scale again.
>>
Jack White
>>
U2 might still sell tickets to old people, but when was the last time they had a Top 40 hit or sold a million albums or had a TRULY highly acclaimed album?

They're completely irrelevant and an afterthought in music history to 99% of the population.
>>
>the U2 is bad meme

Get over it already, they have plenty of great albums
>>
You can judge a dadrock band's relevance by how much their music is still talked about or how many songs the average person under 40 can name. I doubt most people in their 20s can name a U2 song or could tell you what one sounds like.

It's not like, say, AC/DC or Led Zeppelin where their songs are played on CRR all the time and get sampled on TV/in movies etc so everyone knows at least 2-3 songs by those bands.
>>
I recently listened to the whole of U2's discography, They are pretty bad, but not as bad as I would have assumed
>>
>>64299542
That podcast is the best thing about U2
>>
>>64300284
99%...really. You think so highly of your generation that you think you comprise 99% of the population. Most anyone over 30 has at least some appreciation for U2's contribution to music and will continue to support their new albums and shows if they are still as good as Songs Of Innocence. I frankly liked the album and actually spent money for the Deluxe Edition of the album.
>>
Sting
Phil Collins
Elton John

It will cause a reaction, just a very mixed one.
>>
>>64300284
>U2 might still sell tickets to old people, but when was the last time they had a Top 40 hit or sold a million albums
Uh, 2009's No Line on the Horizon sold over a million copies in the US and its lead single hit the Top 40. Their most recent album and its songs didn't chart because they were given out for free months before the paid physical/digital release.

>or had a TRULY highly acclaimed album?
2004's How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is two points shy of universal acclaim on metacritic.
>>
How will people react when Kanye dies?
>>
I'll throw parties when Keith Richards and Gene Simmons die.

I went to the 360° concert in Nashville where they played The Wanderer for the first time since 1993 or whatever, then Bono pulled a blind man up on stage to play a song for his wife and sent him home with his personal guitar. I took my dad since U2 had always been his favorite band but never had the chance to see them live. We took a cross-country roadtrip and had a great week of bonding.

I miss him a lot.
>>
>>64301839
This is false. He was alleged to have used his credit card in a site that had CP. Later it was proved that it was just a normal porn site.
>>
>>64303779
My dad also took me to see them way back in 2005, so I'll always have memories that associate him with U2.

I was only 10-11 at the time and, not gonna lie, it had a major impact on how I perceived music. Before that it was just something I listened to whenever a radio was around.
>>
>>64303998
If nothing else, I hope people can at least acknowledge how great a showman Bono is. Very few vocalists have his amount of stage presence and sense of spectacle. Not really into the Beach Boys. What'd he do that makes people shit on him so much?

Yeah, Argie here, some people know about Kanye because of his "personality", nobody has listened to a song by him.
The only famous rapper in this country is Eminem.

Why do people hate Bono again?

- When the whole world was giving Eminem shit for his lyrical content, Bono stepped up in a public interview at VMAs and said no matter what the content, his right as an artist shouldn't be infringed on.

- When Trent Renzor, still an underground darling at the time, was having something of a personal crisis, Bono came to him personally backstage at a show and offered counsel. Trent admitted he never liked U2's music, but thought highly of Bono for that.

- A philanthroper.

- Respected by a variety artists, from both the mainstream and alternative.

It's because his band is popular, isn't it?

m8...

I know you're still in high school, so you haven't got the world figured out, but I'll let you in on a secret. You're still going to be listening to the same shit you like now in 15 years. You'll just play it off like you're doing it "ironically" or "for nostalgia".

The mature don't need this validation of their own tastes. They'll listen to whatever the fuck they want to listen to, because they're grown people. Not children on an anime website, pretending their musical preferences make them special or unique.

If they listened to U2 15 years ago, they're listening to U2 now.

I think the only people that are capable of having the same effect as Bowie's death are Dylan and McCartney. Maybe Brian Wilson as well but definitely those two.
>>
>>64300378
>I doubt most people in their 20s can name a U2 song

There's always something weird about these sorta broad, nonsensical blanket statements. You can tell this guy is from some bland, small middle American town, where he has like three actual friends who are his only sample size for his broad, nonsensical blanket statement.
>>
>>64302250
people regard the stones the same way they regard the beatles. people would freak out about jagger's death even if they've never actually listened to the rolling stones
>>
>>64303061
Honestly, I would be very sad. His voice is almost as familiar to me as my own mother's. U2's music has been a constant in my life for better or worse.

Nah, it's because most millennials are self-centered idiots that were told to hate Bono by a Matt and Trey cartoon.

One of the really shitty things about Gary Glitter is that he actually made some decent music. But because of all the pedophile shit, he'll never be remember as a musician and its impossible to say that you like his music without looking like some kind of pedo-supporting monster.

There is not a artist person on earth, that after his/her death wont have people crying hard, no matter how impopular.
