I loved pinkerton because I think the charm of the album comes precisely from the fact that it's cheesy and self aware of that. The sound despite coming across as a bit generic sounds really great for some reason and reflects the mood of the lyrics pretty well.
Sure, it's not avant-garde or highly experimental but it seems to revel in that. Sadly it seems to be quite hated here on /mu/
