I actually listened to quite a bit of his stuff earlier this year. While Bowie was definitely a musician I did not naturally come to listen to, Prince was someone I did. Purple Rain is one of the best produced and performed albums of all time, and 1999 and Dirty Mind are great Minneapolis Sound records. I wasn't obsessed with him at all but I loved those records. If there are any artists that I would be considered a massive fan of, it would have to be The Avalanches, J Dilla, Brian Eno, Arthur Russell, Brian Wilson, and Madvillain. That's just me, fuck it if i sound plebian/patrician. I'm a nut over instrumental hip hop and anything with a synth that sounds multi-layered.
