holy shit I didn't know that. my mom listened to alison krauss all the time while I was growing up so this stuff is super nostalgic for me.
anyone know good instrumental bluegrass? I know a few classical/jazz musicians experimenting with bluegrass but this is the only primarily instrumental bluegrass band I know.

yeah my parents listened to it too.
Oh how I HATED bluegrass... waking up early on a sunday morning to the loud clanking and jangling of the dobros and banjoes and mandolin. I hated it so much.
...yet now... now that I'm grown up... I turn it on every once in a while. And when I do, I dream of a place in time that I would kill for the opportunity to go back to.

pretty misleading to call bluegrass "hillbilly mountain music" when it's a distinctly modern style of music in contrast to actual american folk music....... *facepalm*

Always thought this chorus sounded so good, not even sure why
>"What a smile to see Mr. Lincoln dead in the name of god and dixie land"

its not misleading. Bluegrass is old, and originated in the mountains. You've obviously never been near a mountain

I'm from western Virginia. Bluegrass is not old. Do some research on American folk music. Read some Lomax. Bluegrass is a post-WW2 style of music. Listen to some Folkways stuff, then compare that to bluegrass. You'll realize you have no idea what you're talking about

bluegrass was invented in 1801, by a man named Leslie Furdleton III. I met him.
this was long before your john denver and cat stevens mixtapes
bluegrass has all the elements of musical perfection
>traditional acoustic instrumentation
>whimsical melodies
>no niggers
>complex rhythms and dynamics
>exquisite vocal harmonization
Can anyone recommend me stuff similar to this?
