Kamasi Washington's lack of any spiraling harmonies immediately makes him a jazz pleb. He doesn't understand chord subs. he doesn't understand articulations. He is definitely a pleb. Thelonious Monk please save us.

I think I know what you mean... but
The range of styles that he went through in his career are so varied that I find that hard to believe.

Lol you sound like such a pleb. I don't like Kamasi but I'm sure he knows shitloads more "jazz theory" stuff than you.
>>
Really digging some of sonny rollins' stuff rn. No other horn player that I have heard has got his level of energy, or intensity. Strode Rode is the shit.
>>
>>64178893
Doesn't even employ 12 tone rows to escape plebian western harmony
>>
>>64179395
>weird

Weird? I would never call jazz 'weird'. I always found it unsophisticated, lazy, and safe.
>>
>>64180092
wtf free jazz, fusion, etc gets weird as fuck
>>
>>64180111
...No. Nothing I've heard, regardless of the subgenre, has managed to shake the impression that jazz is just a couple of musicians in a soulless manner, with no consideration for each other and no intent to contribute to a larger musical whole, executing their own, isolated handful of transformations.

Fusion, yes, might perhaps have inherited some emotion and design.
>>
>>64180171
>>64180111
...But again, generally, jazz strikes me as having particularly low musical aspirations, a particular lack of musical ideas.
>>
I've started getting into free jazz recently and want to know if there are any guitar heavy artist in this genre?
>>

Marc Ducret https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVjH56DgZUU

What do you mean with spiraling harmonizer?

You guys know any good big band albums?

Has this album been mentioned? so much fun. some of the most enjoyable avant-jazz I've heard.
>>
>>64184732
There are hardly any chord changes! It's so stagnant.

I'm a big fan of fast moving changes that move through several keys. I just generalized that as spiraling harmonies.
>>
>>64180014
I doubt his understanding of theory rivals any of the late greats.

lol I seriously doubt his understanding of music.
>>
>>64185463
good lord dude. why don't you talk about something you like? youre animosity towards kamasi is officially noted.
>>
I can't hear the fucking changes HELP
