A lot of the pics are just because they're Crosleys, which are infamous for being complete shit and basically destroying your records from it's heavy and unadjustable tracking weight (this really applies to 'portable turntables' in general.)

The reason people hate Crosleys is primarily because they don't have a counterweight so the cart put too much pressure on your records. This is also applicable to the LP60.
>>
>>64143472
You could, yes

That makes buying an LP60 a poor choice, but not a mistake
They work perfectly well and won't fuck up your records in the space of a week like a crosley will, so while your money could be better spent elsewhere, they're not as bad as some say

The difference is that the LP60 uses a magnetic cartridge instead of the economy-grade ceramic one crosleys use which improved the efficiency, the tracking weight on the LP60 is on the higher end of "still within tolerable parameters" unlike crosley's "might as well take a fucking scalpel to it" excess of 6 grams

Lack of a counterweight isn't an absolute

No counterweight is not really a concern most of the time; most turntables with P-mount carts doesn't have then, but they all work with the same tracking force. Ceramic carts like the ones used in Crosleys are required to track heavily in records to play them properly.

you mean like 78's right? I was curious about this myself. I have some very old 78's that feel almost like glass to the touch. I also have an LP that's similar, its a RCA Victor pressing of Brahms' second symphony, probably from the 50's Wikipedia says 78's were made from shellac.

>Shellac is a resin secreted by the female lac bug, on trees in the forests of India and Thailand.
> Phonograph (gramophone) records were also made of it during the 78-rpm recording era which ended in Western countries during the 1950s.

Stanton makes pretty good equipment
I DJ'd on Stanton STR-8 100's for a few years and loved 'em.
If you're new to vinyl, make sure to read up on how to properly balance the tonearm on your TT.

If you didnt pay at least 500 dollars for the player. Return it or trow it in the trash. 500 usd is the very minimal for a "decent" vinyl player. Anything lower will sound terrible and fuck up your record collection in minutes. Dont cheap out on the cratridge or phono amp either (300 dollars for the amp minimal and 200 usd for the cartidge).
>>
>>64150852

>>
>>64150906
get fucked faggot. I was once arrogant and folish like you until I grew up. Faggot. I am oy trt
trying to help anon with the honest truth. Vinyl shouldnt be a cheap hobby to get into. You need to spend a good amount on a player (first and formost) follwed by a good amp and finally, good speakers and wires. My Pioneer setup totaled about 1400 USD which isnt a whole lot compared to other set ups. If you listen to vinyl on a sub-500 dollar player, its going to sound inferior to 340 kbs mp3 and cds
>>
>>64151076
you're funny, anon
>>
I don't know anything about record players, nor have heard about Crosley. Can someone sum up why these are "gore" and what's wrong with these hardware other than made to appeal to a certain audience?
>>
>>64151076
you're making blanket statements and baseless assumptions, not least of which is that everyone gets into vinyl to experience better sound quality

you're one of those people who wants to feel superior because you spent a lot of money on your setup

that's fine, but some people just wanna collect records, listen to them without damaging them, and give few fucks
for those people a cheaper turntable, even one with a built-in phono pre, is gonna be just fine

if they decide later on that they want to upgrade, it's all still there
>>
>>64151385
Crosley makes 'vintage' looking turntables and fun colored portable players to appeal to young tumblr users and the like

the quality of the record players is so poor that they actually fuck up your records and make them unplayable over time
>>
>>64151385

- They sound like shit
- They're built like shit
- heavy-tracking ceramic cartridges wears out records faster
- dumb millenials just getting into the vinyl game buy those because they look retro and cool, and are also cheaper
>>
>>64151385
Because Ho Lee Fuk saw that gay hipsters were buying vinyl again and said to Sum Ting Wong
>Oh rook at that. American fag pigs by records naow.
>I see I see Fuk. We shourd make Our own shitty record prayers in Crosrey Guangzhou Plant
>Oh. Verry gud Wong.
Thus Crosely players were born.
>>
>>64151385
* no counter-weight, so the stylus just rips into your vinyl
* stylus isn't replaceable and is shit quality
* shitty speakers
* tiny platter so the record hangs over the edge, causing it to warp over time
* shitty plastic build
* overpriced
>>
>>64151385
Crosleys are just an awful product. In no other industry would a device that at worst considerably damages the stuff it's supposed to be compatible with, and at very best delivers absolutely garbage quality be this widely tolerated.
>>
>>64151385
Every record player's tone arm has a certain tracking weight, which is how heavily the needle rests in the record. Better players have adjustable counterweights so you can fine tune this tracking weight, cheaper ones do not.

Crosleys are cheap and made solely for their style. The ideal tracking weight is between 1 and 2 grams; crosleys have a fixed tracking weight in excess of 6 grams, but because of their cheap-ass build quality, they still don't track well. I can vouch from experience that crosley players will skip all over your record and carve deep scratches into it.

It is worth noting, however, that not having a counterweight is not a guarantee that a player will destroy your records, regardless of what anyone says. It's simply not that clear-cut.

Yes. The turntable component Crosley and Jensen use is manufactured in the same factory in China.

Absolutely. All cheapo vinyl players are msde in China. Some Jensons, Croselys, and 1byOnes are the exact same plauer except they are rebrands.

I have an NEC A-910 amp that I got for $2 at an estate sale, pushing Klipsh kg4's that I got for free. It sounds fantastic. Plug in a Technics that I got on e-bay for a hundo and it sounds just as your yuppie ass custy nonsense. You know all audio circuits are just transistors, resistors and capacitors that they stamp out in China for $0.0001 a unit right? And don't get me started on wires, if you think there is a difference in quality between $5 and $50 speaker cable you don't know how electricity works. Feel free to keep flushing your money down the toilet though.

Some cartridges, especially cheap ones can't handle dubstep very well and will skip.

For example, people on discogs keep calling this record a mispress, because for some reason their shitty record player can't handle the widely cut grooves, it's hilarious.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI2wutluz-c
>>
Alright, I just got a copy of Soft Machine's Third that came in the mail from Discogs and it's not exactly in very good condition. An awful lot of popping and crackling even after cleaning it. No skipping thankfully but it still doesn't sound too good. Upon closer inspection it's got a fuck ton of noticable scratches.

Now the question is, how can I get rid of all these pops and crackles?

Polystyrene. They were cheaper to make; produced using injection molding, rather than stampers.

Pro tip: polystyrene records should only be played with a conical stylus. Some elliptical, line contact, and microline styli will carve the shit out of them.
