I don't think disagreeing with what one company or another does is taking issue with the free market. I'm not saying they should be shut down, obviously. I'm just disagreeing with that company.
I think it's bad to be totally apathetic to these things. The government is not gonna shut these companies down, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't change. They exist by throwing a shitload of money into advertising and a tiny amount into r&d. The fact that the pedals themselves are $30 in parts shows how much money is wasted.

>>64116377
I second this. Also invest in a decent amplifier. You will already achieve the warm and clean tone of an archtop instrument since you own the AF55. I personally like to roll off the bass and low end and put on all the trebles similar to how Grant Green configured it.

nice, another possessed user! such a great pedal. i forgot how good it sounded. someone on another forum wanted to hear it with the microgranny granular so i recorded a loop onto the microgranny and then glitched it with the Taste and Touch knobs of the possessed. Kept the Smell below serious runaway sounds of its own. i think it turned out really good, towards the end i turned the Sight up to full CW and I think I like the glitches I was getting in that range.

vamp is pretty limited as an all in one. the two analog amp sims they have are pretty good if that's what you're after. I imagine the reverbs and delays are good though. btw the newer behringoo bass amps are good, especially if you consider the used prices compared to other brands.

go to large store and spend an afternoon playing guitars, a strat is literally the dullest guitar on earth. if you must have a strat body, get an ibanez , kramer or, charvel. at least that way you won't have to suffer the embarrassment of playing a fender that's not a telecaster.
>>
>>64120178
It's more like, for that price and higher it's difficult to justify the price at all if you're like most people and don't want any outstanding features.

>>

>>64121505
But don't different guitars play differently enough to be better for some things over others?
>>
>>64120790

Don't take everything this guy
>>64120427
says. Superstrats are more geared for modern style playing, think metal, shred, that kind of stuff. Strats are geared towards playing blues, pop, rock, that kinda stuff. It all depends on what you want.

Then again that stereotype is really due to tradition and its possible to play jazz on a superstrat and metal on a Strat.

It's all personal at this point.

MIM strats are pretty good, my main issue with them is they only have 21 frets. I don't need 24 but I find myself using the 22 sometimes.
>>
>>64121638
no. that is a meme.
>>
>>64120790
Imitation strats like SX are generally very easy to play which helps. I got my first guitars at pawn shops which i recommend.

Music shops generally only sell 2 or 3 different brands. At pawn shops you get to see the whole spectrum and decide what feels best.
Look for good tuning pegs, action, fret width, size, weight, just explore.

My $100 Sx is still one of my favorite guitars, but you gotta find out for yourself what suits you.
>>
>>64121638

It's not that different really. It's not downright impossible to play djent on strats, or jazz on RGs. In fact if you are pretty skilled, any guitar should be fine for you.
>>
>>64120790
that's a really big question

how comfortable the neck feels matters much more than the sound of a guitar, strictly speaking.

>>64121866
not to start an argument since you didn't talk about tone, but playing djent on a strat would probably sound like ass unless it was run through some serious DSP in the first place. I'm not sure that your second example is comparable since the neck pickup on an RG through a clean amp for jazz would sound fine / be significantly more appropriate than djent on a strat...

>>
>>64122042
Change the bridge pickup to a single coil sized humbucker, or there are HSS strats.

You could change the neck pickup on an RG to something lower output and vintage voiced too.
>>
>>64122042
>dat Alphonse Mucha
>>
>>64122042
Strats can djent really well. That twangy tone single coils have sounds pretty good with heavy distortion and gating. Coil splitting is pretty popular with djent dudes since they still have the bridge humbucker when they want it, but strats do get used occasionally

https://soundcloud.com/c2aye/split-coil-tone-mixtest
>>
>>64122422
>Coil splitting is pretty popular with djent dudes
For cleans. It's very rare to hear it used for the big sounds.
>>
>>64122714
>It's very rare to hear it used for the big sounds
I don't really listen to a bunch of djent, I just know Tesseract and Sithu Aye use heavy single coil sounds a good amount, and it sounds good. My point being, strats sure can djent
>>
>>64122422
but...

a) coil-splitting doesn't sound identical to an actual single coil.
b) they might sound good for leads, I'm not doubting that, but chugging? chordal sections?
c) I'm not sure that someone's custom 7 string 'strat' being coil split is at all similar to a MIM/MIA strat. with an HSS or HSH setup maybe you could get close, maybe.

>>64122116
at the point that you're modding the guitar anything is possible, but that sort of defeats the purpose of this comparison, no?

there are HSS strats indeed, but unless someone specifies HSS I don't tend to think of strats with humbuckers.
>>
>>64123020
We've had this strat/djent argument before, and some anon posted a video of Misha from Periphery demoing some heavy shit on a strat. Can't find it now, so this random kid's video will have to do:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q13oBRLkous

Single coils can chug just fine
>>
>>64123020

Single coiled sized humbuckers then.

Tone Zone S,hot rails.. Etc
>>
>>64123082
You're thinking of this. Keep in mind BKP Piledrivers have crazy high output in comparison to most single coils.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCK7oHgmv7M

>>64122932
Can't comment on Sithu Aye but the vast majority of TesseracT rhythm tones are Painkillers and M7s, not split.
>>
>>64123020
the biggest reason that spilt humbuckers don't sound like single coils is the different magnet configurations. Humbuckers have a bar magnet whereas single coils have magnetic pole pieces. Humbuckers without bar magnets sound a lot more like single coils. Well, really, they sound exactly like single coils.
>>
no bar magnet. In this way a split humbucker is more similar to a p90.

They are probably good for those articulate, staccato-ish trebly tones.

Single coils are used for shred too, they sound more articulate in my opinion, without beef though.

Even with batches of "identical" guitars, there can be enough variation to be noticeable - some just don't feel right and there can be some real "Friday afternoon specials" out there - You sure don't want one of those.

i haven't had much time to play around with it yet. I dig the sound so far though. Trying it dead last in my chain before the looper next. I had it before the delay and reverb and I wasn't super thrilled with it, this might be better though.

of course you can, but that's a totally different kind of sound. to track doubled takes exactly enough you need some sort of reference so you better record it all on a click track which is fine if your guitar tacks are part of a bigger arrangement
but if you want it to be a solo instrument that won't really work

It's an AVRI model, or not? Or a classic player?

I've been eyeing the HH MIM one, but that's a different bridge, isn't it? So I would not have to change it if I buy it, or not?

Anyway, great guitar.
>>
>>64130753
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NH5UEF6
You will have to change the bridge on any model you buy. I wouldn't recommend AVRIs, they come with same shitty bridges despite being so expensive. Mine sounded exactly like AVRI (same pickups, duh) but it even plays better after I've shielded and modded it.

Also, classic players are not typical Jazzmasters. Pickups are way hotter and the upper control panel isn't actually a rhythm circuit.
>>
>>64130894
>the upper control panel isn't actually a rhythm circuit.

Woah, really? what the fuck is it then?

From the fender website on the cp jm

>Moving the upper-bout slider switch to the up position—that is, away from the neck—activates the Jazzmaster’s rhythm circuit, which is entirely separate from the lead circuit.

>>
>>64131958
first write a chord progression you really like. One you can sort of "picture" a song around. Optimally with a verse and chorus. It's easier to start that way. Then get a looper, or just a looper on your phone. Loop one section, either the verse or the chorus. Build your riffs while listening to the loop.

tl;dr add riffs to the song not the other way around

don't worry about it until you're better. But you can give your guitar a rudimentary setup without really knowing what you're doing and without tools. I recommend it, it's nothing you can't undo. Having your guitar set up at various actions will let you get a better idea of what you like. niggers

Bought this last week.

1996 Fender Tonemaster with a 4*12 cab. It's pretty damn glorious. I got it for the drive channel which is pretty insane and very versitile.
It goes from low bluesy/rockabilly gain levels to Mastodon levels of gain.

I got it to be a middle thing between my Divided By 13 FTR37 (Clean to light crunch) and my Marshall AFD100 (one trick pony lead beast)

Yeah, I get what you mean.

It does have lots of gain (as much as I would ever need) I guess it's just more the fact that, it feels like this amp has weight in the tone. Hard to describe.
It's full and juicy but it's very clear and punchy at the same time.

It sounds absolutely godlike when I use my A/B box and have my FTR and the Tonemaster running at the same time with some gain on each. Fucking massive

22/21 is fine if you want the particular harmonics of the neck pickups, fret access matters more than the amount you have, and even if I think it makes more sense to have 24, you're still not going to use the 24th fret that often.
