Iowa's turntablism wankery is a lot more subtle and tastefully used, it's rythmically more complex, bass is tight as fuck, the title track is the best thing they did, and it's probably their most emotionally charged and tense album. Really shows the conditions they recorded it.
why is it that everyone thinks slipknot is shit but then others then point to Iowa (which is literal anti intellectual shit btw) as a measure of their greatness?
it really makes no sense. slipknot was never good. Cognitive dissonance and lack of maturity is what I'd call it.

I disagree. In Iowa you can easily discern every instrument, the mix is pretty good in that album. Also, it features less dj wankery and is heavier, I think it ends up sounding "rawer" despite being better produced. I think the production fits the sound they were going for. It's a lot more subtle than on their following albums at least.
