I like the freedom you get with owning your own files. You could even go into Audacity and put in a 2 or 3 second silence in between the sides if you want.

I do agree with you even do I still use Spotify at times. It also sucks how a lot of really good albums, like purple rain, the chronic, ITCOTCK, Trout mask replica, and in rainbows (and that's naming a few) are not on Spotify. There is probably a good reason why. But it still sucks, atleast iTunes have those some of those albums I mention (besides trout mask replica), But I tunes was never really my thing. Much more of buying a physical copy than a file.

Honestly just what's attached to it. My dad was a bit of a drunk when I was like ~9-11 and he was constantly yellin at us and pissed. Really made it ass to live in. So he had a bunch of old CDs. When I listened to that album it made me feel like someone else was kinda feelin down with me. I only listened to closer recently and I have no emotional connection to it other than the latter half was still pretty emotional to me. But still just not the same

Ah, ok.
I don't really have any connection with the album so when I first heard it I was pretty put off by it. Even now I find it a bit mediocre.
Closer however blew me away on first listen. It just sounds so incredibly different and there's an atmosphere on it which I can't find on UP. There's something utterly morbid about it, like a final word before death (well, that's exactly what it is but even without the context it still sounds like it).
I can understand why you like UP though.

Spiderland basically helped me through a nasty period of depression when writing my first album. For several months it was literally the only album I could listen to.
And of course it's got genius songwriting, completely innovative guitar technique, incredible performances and it's just a masterpiece in every single way.

Is this it just has really catchy melodies sharp consice song writing really great interplay between everyone and every moment it just really warm and entertaining. I understand why some one might not like it for its simplicity but it's just so well put together and has a swagger to it I just can't resist. But hey different strokes for different folks.

hey that's fair, smiths aren't for everybody. i'd definitely suggest listening again though, it normally takes me a few listens to get into an album. personally for me i think it's the perfect mix of upbeat and depressing, catchy as fuck and makes me feel nostalgic.
