why rap/hip-hop is such trash now, compared to mid 90's/early 00's?
>repetitive as fuck
>simplified to the point of rhyming nigga with nigga
>shitty overhyped trap beats
>all these autotune "rappers" sounding the same
>lyrics making no sense
I just want boombap to return...

>>
>>64065688
hopsin is meh but he got a good point about trap music, can't deny it
>>
>>64065701
how, motherfucker? how is boombap worse than this trap bullshit? boombap rappers all sounded different, had their own flow and style that you could recognize right away, trap rappers all flow the same and I can't really tell the difference unless I see them, homogenous bullshit
>>
>>64065711

Kinda ruined because his trap song is his best song
>>
>>64065743
no, it's his catchiest song... there's difference between good and catchy, nigga... hopsin isn't that great overall by at least he tries to push some message with his music, not the I got stacks, I well drugs bullshit
>>
>>64065779
There's nothing wrong with what other trap artists do. They write about their life, they right what they live and know. Have you ever heard Trap Niggas by Future? It's one of the realest trap songs.

>>
>>64065676
The thing is, you're only remembering the stuff from the 90s and early 00s that was good enough to stick in people's minds and comparing that to everything that's popular today

Every era of music has some absolute shite but that doesn't mean there's nothing good in hip hop rn

That being said, 2016 has been a fucking awful year for hip hop so far
>>
>>64065917
I honestly haven't listened to rap except for a few albums from established acts Hip Hop's become so stagnant. After Kendrick Lamar last year there were like three rap albums I listened to, I had to start expanding through older rock and Jazz there was so little meat on the bone. I was really hoping Kendrick ended the Trap wave but after Kanye's new album I think it's here to stay.
>>
>>64066355
>>64066367
Are you white? I know about ten people IRL that like Hopsin, they're all white. Starting to think it's a trend.
>>
>>64066419
>claims all current hip-hop is shit
>hasn't listened to current hip-hop

good1
>>
>>64066401
that's my exact point bruh, every single rapper sounds like the last one and still gains popularity, like what the fuck? I know there's tons of good rap out there, but fucks sake why only shit tier gets pushed to the mainstream? it wasn't supposed to be like that...
>>
>>64066437
I don't need to suffer through a full album to call rap shit. I only say I've listened to an album if I make through the entire ordeal, most albums recently turn me off within the first two songs.

So when I say I've lsitened to three albums, I mean, I've only made it through three albums and listened to them again, and enjoyed them. I listened to quite a wide range of hip hop last year and everyone has fallen off. There's no more competition, no more drive among artists, and when Drake had one of the strongest albums among the mainstream something is terribly wrong.
>>
Pete Rock and CL Smooth are allegedly working on comeback album, Ghostface and MF Doom work on album, Action Bronson, Joey Badass, Slaughterhouse (and solo projects from these guys), feels good to know real hip hop is still alive, feels bad mainstream hip hop is such trash... kids won't grow up on Masta Ace's long hot summer...
>>
>>64066437
Nigga Kendrick put out B-sides and made three Hiroshimas on every other rapper's material. No one can beat a fucking EP man! No one can dent a fucking B side album, seriously? You honestly can't defend trap when every song sounds like Future or Ferg made it bruh.
>>
>>64066489
Ghoststarks has been being teased for almost half a decade

Pete and Smooth is just going to be retreds of what they've already done

Getting hyped for Action Bronson? Really?

I'm not white enough to enjoy Slaughterhouse

I'm skeptical that Joey will ever match his debut.
>>
>>64066492
so much this, trap is now even more homogenous than pop or edm, there's no substance in this bullshit genre
>>
>>64065949

>>
>>64066518
>Ghoststarks has been being teased for almost half a decade

I want to believe they'll deliver after hearing BBNG x Ghostface

>Pete and Smooth is just going to be retreds of what they've already done

maybe, maybe not

>Getting hyped for Action Bronson? Really?

I like his bullshit approach to lyrics, works surprisingly well as background noise

>I'm not white enough to enjoy Slaughterhouse

pointless sentence, lots of blacks listen to them

>I'm skeptical that Joey will ever match his debut

try looking at it positively, even if he won't match the debut, it's still gonna be better than majority of today's rappers
>>
>>64066602
I'm just not as optimistic as you I guess. Post-Kanye I just don't know what to believe in anymore.
>>
>>64066661
kanye went downhill after college dropout, stopped paying attention to him after 808's, still respect him as producer but as rapper he's just wack...
>>
>>64066691
Iunno, Graduation I thought he was slipping, MBDTF brought me back on, then Yeezus, THEN TLOP. LAte Registration is what got me into Hip Hop, it's just kind of sad he's doing this to himself and that I don't have any of the same respect I used to have.
>>
>>64066691
Kanye is such a shit rapper, even though I like his first two records and a couple of songs that came after. Sometimes I just cannot stand the timbre of his voice, it's so nasally and his flows are often reeeally simplistic. Even some of his production has started to suffer, TLOP has some fucking dreadful clipping issues along with some off key singing.

>>
>>64066769
THAT'S WHAT THE SONG IS ABOUT? IT'S ABOUT A CAR?

>>64066746
I think I don't mind his flow because I lived in Chicago, it just sounds like people from a round here. Now live in Southern Illinois and that's jsut Chicago Accent mixed with a Tennessean.
>>
>>64066746
yes his fucking annoying voice... never before had an urge to stab someone with rusty screwdriver just because of their voice
>>
>>64066786
It's not really about anything. The lyrics are literally just:

>Huhuhuh tony montana
>Hey my car kind of looks like a panda >Huhuhuhuh. Panda.
>Panda panda panda
>>
>>64066858
it's total bullshit and people still fucking like it, and legit think it's a good song, where the fuck did this planet go wrong?
>>
>>64065676
There are still a lot of decent to great albums released every year but they don't sell well and don't get talked about much, especially not on bad music boards like /mu/. Also the old elite did it to themselves by releasing a lot of lackluster shit (most rapppers from back in the day have fallen off hard, and you know it) and by following every stupid trend instead of doing their own thing. But I somewhat agree; mainstream rap has never been worse than today.

00's hip hop was absolute trash and a slump in creativity and quality of hip hop
modern hip hop is seeing plenty of experimentation in terms of production and going back to the roots of making bangers and bringing the fun factor to it

00's hip hop tried so hard to be high-brow it turned into shit

Lol you're so mad because you're too insecure to enjoy it. Its so good you're thinking about it now. There's plenty of boom bap shit getting pumped out.
>>
>>64068899
Alchemist lol. He can't compete with hip hop gods like metroboomin

There's plenty of modern rap that's better than anything the 90's and early 00's produced and you're a fucking idiot for even making this thread. If you want to listen to good music you'll find it instead of complaining about the stuff you don't like you fucking cuck

you need to be "low" to get as much audience as possible, because the simpler it is, even more people can enjoy it. that's kind of the concept behind pop(ular) music and rap.
