it isn't so much about experience as it is about being able to relate closely to the sentiments expressed through an artists' work. anyone can have an objective understanding of a piece of music, but the emotional intricacies vary in their impact from person to person.

I'm straight but I see zero issue with this.
Resonance bridges all of that if you're a bright person and you have an ear for pathos, and I'd imagine a lot of straight 'Coil' listeners are probably pretty bright dudes like that in their own respective ways too.

Sexuality is (consciously and subconsciously) an important part of life and one's personality and behaviour, therefore most of the time it (ranging from slightly to greatly) influences the art one makes and how one percieves other's people art.
That said; at least in the Coil albums I've heard sexuality doesn't seem to be present enough for them to be something 'straight people can't understand' except for maybe a few songs. However I've only heard their later stuff so idk, plus I'm straight.
