i like many albums, but i am not sure that i really got the message the artist is trying to convey. yes, the music on this album is godtier, yes they are original, genre defying and so on. its great music and it doesnt take a fucking genius to figure that out. what im saying is, there is a difference between liking an album because of the great sonical experience, and truly feel the artist's pain and suffering put through to you by the combination of the soul crushing sound and lyrics

Funny thing is that Drake intended to have another picture of him as the cover like his other albums, but the record publishers thought he looked too ghoulish (since his depression was really starting to effect him at this point, and he showed it), so they convinced him to have another picture as the cover. I forgot where the painting came from, I think it was by someone Drake was familiar with, but it was showed to him and he accepted it.

It really is the perfect example. Women tend not to enjoy it because most of us have dated a guy like that, and he was the worst. So for men the album brings out all these feelings they can relate to and reminds them of their own experiences. Whereas women just remember that loser from college who felt entitled to sex and thought he was a genius because he read Faulkner.
It's sort of like how men get turned off by music that's explicitly feminist. They feel attacked, and find the music no fun. Whereas the music might resonate with women who dealt with constant misogyny.
