Good question. I've been told it's damaged from playing very very loudly. But it could also be a genetic predisposition, both my father and grandfather suffer from hearing problems by mid-life.

No.

When did you discover 4chan? And what makes you as an adult still post on a website full of trolls and underage fags?
>>
>>64029498
sorry to pry.

Do you love what you do? Is it worth not making a whole lot? Do you wish you went and took accounting or something a bit more lucrative?

I'm stuck between wanting to go with my passion (music) or going for something more stable and safe.

Several years ago. I do market research on this board (listening habits, media distribution methods). Not interested in the rest of 4chan.
>>64029560
>Do you love what you do? Is it worth not making a whole lot?
Wow good question. You need to have a happy medium. You need to do what you love (you will be miserable in life if you are doing a job you hate) but obviously you need $$ to survive. I love making music but I accept I will not make much $$ from it at all. That's not the reason I do it anyways. My main clients for my a/v work are super cool, it's fun working with them though.
>Do you wish you went and took accounting or something a bit more lucrative?
No. I do, however, wish I'd made different decisions earlier in life in regards to opportunities passed

>>
>>64029908
Since my goals are to make art that I find interesting and succeeds in fulfilling the vision for it, then yes. I'm not really interested in succeeding financially in regards to my music. Otherwise I'd be playing buttrock or barrock or whatever.
>>
>>64029354

>>64029354
Who's an artist/band that changed your life, or made you do music in the first place?
>>
What podcasts do people even listen to?
>>
>>64030065
There were a number. I guess I'll choose Nirvana, I have memories of being in high school, air guitaring to In Utero, wanting to sound like that. Very embarrassing. I think In Utero was the first rock album "of my generation" I bought and seriously listened to and it blew me away.
>>
>>64030028
Just want to say, as an aspiring musician in my early 20's, how important sound tech people are. They don't get any recognition, but they're often just as indispensable to a show or an album as the artist.

Other question: what kind of market research do you do on here, specifically? Identifying buzz-artists (i.e., what happened with Car Seat Headrest and 2814, being acclaimed on here led to greater widespread popularity)
>>
>>64030099
>what kind of market research do you do on here, specifically? Identifying buzz-artists
Well, the buzz-artist thing is only that I'm casually interested in "what are kids listening to these days". I can't say I like any of the buzz-artists you guys talk about here. I'm probably too old and am concerned with "the big picture".

It's weird, we live at a time that is really a crossroads for musicians. I know you probably take it for granted, but because of my age I was right there in college when Napster happened, and the "industry fell", and the paradigm shift to what it is now started to happen. So I'm old enough to still believe in the album format and the dinosaur mentality of playing in a band and putting out records. But at the same time, I'm young enough to recognize that the paradigm shift has happened. So I'm essentially trying to find a new way to promote and market music, based on how you guys discover/listen to new music.
>>
>>64029354
What's your favorite and least favorite genres?
>>
>>64030276
Probably indie rock, psychedelic, weird pop, some shoegaze, krautrock, etc. Least favorite would probably be country, EDM and metal.

>>64030217
I mean, I don't know if I'm older than most everyone here or right about the median or where I'm at, but I'm 25, I still find incredible value to the concept of an album as a whole or something to be listened to as an experience, sort of like watching a movie or something like that.

I think a lot of people here probably still feel that way as well given the relative resurgence and popularity of record collecting that exploded in the past decade. There's still a place in the music landscape for albums, a rather big one too IMO.
>>
>>64030534
Yeah I agree, but I've found people *say* they are into albums, but don't actually listen to them as intently as people did 10 years ago. If they do, it's quickly consumed and they move onto to the next big thing. Does music deserve more than that? I believe so. How? Trying to figure that out.

>honestly just because you go into another profession doesn't mean you can't play music. Plenty of great musos have other jobs. It has the potential to make you more rounded anyway in my opinion. I think it's bad to create the dichotomy of following your dreams vs a boring job. That's quite an immature perspective I've come to understand
That being said, there's no point doing something you can't enjoy. Basically everyone makes their life work in their own way. There's no right way to do things and you'll always find time to pursue and excel in the stuff you love.
