What's wrong with Billy Corgan? Not trolling, I don't know anything about this guys private life.
>>
>>64024741
He's a prick. To everyone. Always.
>>
>>64024741
He's fallen out with pretty much everyone who's ever worked with him. He's a well documented control freak, chemtrails conspiricy nut, jesus freak and general bitter asshole. It's well known that he alienated and ostracized his entire band in the 90s, which is why the SPs broke up in the first place. He's a transphobe, there was some controversy where he threatened to assault a tranny (I know /mu/ is full of edgy teenagers who hate trannies too, but I think threatening to attack people because of their mental health issues is out of order t b h). There's a hilarious interview on youtube where he complains about how Dave Grohl is seen as a contemporary artist while he is seen as a washed-up 90s hack. Dave Pajo of Tortoise describes him as being like a real life version of Alan Partridge. He has this weird beef with Pavement, there was that article where he said he'd "piss on Pavement and Radiohead". IDK, there's countless others. All of this is easy to find on google.

Longtime SP fan here.

All of this is true unfortunately.
>>
>>64024949
Thom is really pretentious, but I haven't really heard anything too bad about him besides that. I remember a story where Kanye went up to him at an awards show and told him he was a fan and Thom ignored him. Kanye's a piece of shit though, so I guess I don't care.

you couldn't resist being one of those edgy teenagers yourself, could you?
>>
>>64024980
Are you suggesting that gender dysphoria isn't a mental health issue?
>>
>>64024708
She seems fine to me. She's just very private and very introspective. She's always warm when she's in her element. If you watch videos of her with people like Sara Watkins, you see her fun side come out.
>>
>>64024980
but that's literally what it is. something wrong in their brains. that doesn't mean they're subhuman, of course, just different due to an 'error'
(not him)
>>
>>64024990
>>64025055
You could argue that it's more of a problem of society as we know it having gender roles.
Women in men's bodies would have less of a problem if it was alright for them to wear dresses and makeup, to overly simplify it.

In a world where everyone expresses their gender the way they want, it's not a mental health issue.

In the real world that's not a friendly utopia, it's a mental health issue. Not saying that society needs to change all that. But it's only "wrong in their brains because we imposed rules for what's "right" in a brain at some point.

The same way that autism could be a "healthy" thing like synesthesia, it's just that we decided at some point that it didn't work. Brains are so different, and every difference to another brain can be categorized as "wrong in their brains".

I'm not even defending anyone here, I'm just saying that I don't think you can easily say that it is or isn't a mental HEALTH thing. But it IS a mental thing.

this is b8

there is nothing with being a transgender, same for homosexuality.

but isn't something due to "society"

autism have nothing to do with it, autism is a structure, not a particular symptom.

and ask anyone who grew out of severe autism, generally they prefer NOT being autistic and being able to talk and exist.

>>64024823
To be fair the band breaking up wasn't entitely his fault. Wretzky was a junky and left the band, causing the instability that led to Machina's incompletion, Chamberlain was also a junkie, their keyboardist, another junkie, OD'd, etc. Plus, he released plenty of great stuff since Adore but people kept expecting 90's Pumpkins all over again, I can see from where his frustration comes (better stuff than fucking Foo fighters that's for sure). But yeah he's still an asshole most of the time.
>>
>>64023970
My uncle went to a Smashing Pumpkins show back in the 90s and apparently Billy Corgan got mad at the fans so they played every song twice as fast and he screamed into the mic the whole time
>>
>>64024723
What did Jamie ever do?
>>
>>64026360
You understand that gender dysphoria refers to the distress caused by gender identity issues and not to adults who have transitioned, right?

And the ICD still seems to confuse "transsexualism" with cross dressing, so it's nice that you decided to cite this 20+ year old document to argue your shitty opinion.
>>
>>64026436
>Wretzky was a junky and left the band, causing the instability that led to Machina's incompletion
Incorrect. Most SP albums had Billy on bass, she literally was not needed. Also, machina was completed.
>Chamberlain was also a junkie
Who sobered up.
>he released plenty of great stuff since Adore but people kept expecting 90's Pumpkins all over again,
Yeah Teargarden is fantastic lol
>(better stuff than fucking Foo fighters that's for sure)
Oceania is about equal to present Day Foo Fighters and Monuments is worse than present day Foo Fighters.
>>
>>64027724
This.

Wretzky didn't leave the band, she was kicked out by Corgan... and Billy performed the majority of bass on Machina (like he did on most albums).

Jimmy was sober by then. The keyboardist wasn't an official member of the band and his death was in 1996.

Everytime Billy works with musicians, he ends up declaring them the worst human beings ever and completely burns all bridges with said musicians. Is it a coincidence that everyone he ever works with ends up calling him an asshole? Even the people from Zwan hate him.

Everything post Machina is complete shit with the exception of Oceania, which is mostly shit. Billy has spent the last ten years chasing fame and it's not working at all. Then he has the gall to blame everyone else for his shitty sales.

i'm have nothing agaisn't transgender peoples and sex change is actually the best method to treat gender dysphoria but gender disphoria is VERY related to borderline personality disorder and even the DSM 5 aknowledge gender dysphoria as a mental issue.

something being a mental issue doesn't mean it's bad, just that it's related to underlying issues that are of psychiatric nature.

however just like homosexuality, gender dysphoria isn't causing trouble to anyone.

>>64029195
The DSM-5 reclassified gender dyphoria to refer to the discontent resulting from gender dysphoria, so I'm not sure why you'd chose to cite that.

You usage of the word issue has a negative connotation implying it's something to be fixed. Perhaps most telling is that you're now grouping homosexuality as a mental disorder with gender dysphoria. I'd like to know what the "underlying issues that are of a psychiatric nature" in relation to homosexuality.

I saw Billy Corgan a grocery store in Chicago yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Billy trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started SCANNING it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

What makes you think Machina was incomplete? The songs were done, but Virgin wouldn't release the double album he wanted and didn't seem interested in Machina II after the first album flopped. That's one of the reasons he leaked Machina II online.

If anything, Virgin did him a favour. Machina isn't good enough to have two discs worth of material. A single disc version of Machina I/II would have been nice though if Billy lost the shitty "concept" and let up on the distortion a little bit.

But your original statement was the D'arcy prevented the album from being completed. Strange considering the album WAS recorded and was mostly recorded without her (like most albums).

Not just D'arcy. I think the tensions they have been acumulating culminated with D'arcy being kicked or leaving or whatever, which definitely messed up with the release of Machina. The album has a shit ton of nice songs. It'd be great if it got a remaster (that loud ass production with Billy choirs everywhere is awful) it could rival their best stuff.
The songs were done but the concept suffered by not being released as it was intended. And yes, if you grab best stuff from the two Machinas you'd have a damn fine double album.

I think one bassist was an old dude from a 60s garage rock band but he was live only.
>>
>>64031078
>Not just D'arcy. I think the tensions they have been acumulating culminated with D'arcy being kicked or leaving or whatever, which definitely messed up with the release of Machina
Incorrect. What messed up the release of Machina (as the double album) was the record label, because Corgan *had* to serve his ego and put out a career-killer like Adore. Had he been more reasonable, he could have had the backing for Machina. But no, his ego came in the way again.
>The songs were done but the concept suffered by not being released as it was intended
Wrong again. The concept suffered from being overly derivative in the first place, as well as being incomprehensible to anyone but himself.
>And yes, if you grab best stuff from the two Machinas you'd have a damn fine double album.
Goddamn back to the O board with you.
>>
Oceania is defo a good record. Like, 7/10 some really nice stuff on it. Unfortunately it's the only decent thing he's done since Adore imo. Monuments was fucking awful
>>
>>64031078
I don't think it was D'arcy though. They seemed okay with recording and continuing with Adore when Jimmy was kicked out, and they already recruited Auf der Maur. Pumpkins have always been 99% Billy (or at least that's what Billy claims), he could have kicked James out and continued fine. I think a lot of it had to do with fans losing interest in his artistic direction. Either way, the common theme with all of Billy's bandmates seem to be that they end up hating him.

>>64031232
Like he said, the concept was pretty incomprehensible and it was really silly.

I don't think Adore was a career killer though. Adore was the most respectable thing Billy did post Mellon Collie. The problem is that Billy was upset that Adore didn't sell as well as MC. That's when the Billy that is constantly trying to stay relevant through record sales was born.
>>

It's okay, but it could really use Jimmy. That kid drummer was pretty meh.

Also, Billy's voice got worse but somehow is higher in the mix which really kills it for me. Billy getting confidence in his voice was the worst move he could make.

Maybe he should have stuck to writing about teen angst too, his lyrics are fucking terrible.

>I don't think Adore was a career killer though. Adore was the most respectable thing Billy did post Mellon Collie
The problem is he wants his cake and to eat it to. You can't be a commercial mainstream rock band on MTV, AND still trying to be an artist going for 100% artistic credibility. You can't cater to the world will also alienating them. Choose a side, or find a happy medium between the two.
>>
>>64031421
>You can't be a commercial mainstream rock band on MTV, AND still trying to be an artist going for 100% artistic credibility.
I guess for a short while he did have both those things though. He was making music he truly believed in around SD/ MC and it was making him a megastar. For a brief period, his artistic vision was aligned with what the public wanted. Then the public wanted something else and it seems to have driven him slightly crazy.

I always find it funny how he features in that ep of the Simpsons about music going out of fashion and old rockers being lame. Time can be cruel.

I guess when I meant "he's always angry" I meant that he's easily pissed off.
Some dude on YouTube who goes by NFKRZ made a joke about him hitting a child with his fucking Nyan cat Lamborghini or some shit, deadmau5 then then blocked him and started talking shit about him while streaming rocket league.
And he posts shit to twitter like "lol, whoever trolls a troll must get a prize of some sort"
And then proceeds to call himself a master troll after getting salty af from one guy on twitter making a joke about him.
I like some of his music and he has some agreeable views on certain topics, but his reddit tier humor and "le trolled" stuff I dislike.
Though, at least he doesn't give a shit what people think of him, for the most part.

In the SD remaster liner, he states that SD was his sell out album, an attempt to write pop songs because he didn't want to go broke. And then if you look at the early pre-Gish demos and their abandonment of their early Goth sound, one could argue he's always been a trend hopper in the guise of being a true, uncorruptible artist.

>>
>>64031532
I think it was more that alt rock was starting to lose popularity.. and then Billy had that strangely misguided goth thing going on.

Smashing Pumpkins 2.0 seem to be drifting between trying to rekindle the flame from the 90s and trying to appeal to what "kids" want these days. Monuments was Billy trying hard to pander to what's popular these days.

Oh that's right, I forgot.

Yeah, Mary/Star of the Sea was meant to be the pop album to commercially get their foot in the door. The follow-up album was supposed to be a live-in-the-studio album, like The Beatles Let It Be/Get Back. It was never completed (If it was even started).

And that's ignoring the albums-worth of material that Corgan write for Zwan that pre-dated the MSOTS album.

Why do you think Henry is a shitty person? Genuinely curious. He seems like an alright guy to me.
>>
>>64035234

He's crazy, and not in an endearing way. He's known for stealing money for labels, ripping off venues, intentionally selling bullshit because "art lol" and other ripoffs. As a person, he was apparently pretty unpleasant - he was a bipolar ass to pretty much everyone, and the few people who managed to befriend found that he was an overly clingy nervous mess. He would call people for hours nonstop in the middle of the night and then demand they call him again in a few hours.

Of course, this is not entirely his fault. His parents were both classical musicians who believed in old fashioned traditional values, and Juntaro was a homosexual who liked to experiment with music - so they hated the shit out of him. The only family member who treated him with any dignity was his brother, and the only other person who got him as a human was Gero 30. When Juntaro had his nervous breakdown and went into nearly two decades of reclusiveness, his brother had gotten in a car accident and Gero 30 got locked up in a mental institution and he had to run Gerogerigegege by himself. That's why the last few albums are disturbing dark ambient, and that's Saturdaynight Big Cock Salaryman is so pained and disturbing. He wasn't ready to try the soulcrushing salaryman life expected of him. Now that Grim has found him, though, he seems to have gotten over himself.

It must be a depressing life when the only man who "gets" you is a giant old man who jerks off into a vacuum and shits on the floor for fun.

Those kind of examples come usually from people really ignorant about the person they're talking about. No offense. Sure Rollins was pretty intense in the 80s but his personality goes beyond that. Dude is the opposite of a hypocrite, which is what most celebrities that are perceived as "nice" are. His thoughts on the Robin Williams suicide were badly written but he corrected it and it made a lot of sense. When you're personally in pain everyday but keep carrying on it's hard not to get spontaneously angry at people you love offing themselves. Anyway, if Rollins has one thing I don't particularly like it's his over optimism, whether it'd be political or ideological. Sometimes he sounds really naive (like when he said he thinks in a hundred years war will be a thing of the past and something humans are over with...) but I think he just made a choice never to be negative or fatalist. Like he'd rather be wrong but positive about his outlook on things than right but pessimist about the world.
