I grew up with the Gameboy color and onwards, but like, the NES was still there and I did play it, and people have been making original music with video game hardware since at least the 90's anyway. Before the internet became as user friendly as it is they held things called demoparties where people would exhibit Amiga mods and shit, and music was a part of that, even if pushing the visual/programming capabilities seemed to be more of the focal point then.
