But that album is also miserable and in no way similar to AT. At the end of the day it really doesnt matter but still. Miserable folk music has nothing to do with the happy silliness of AT. I see no similarities. A dimwitted innocent child being raised by an unemployed alcoholic pirate (flapjack) fits the sadness of NMH and tons of stills fr that show could practically be alternate covers for it. Anyway my point isnt that flapjack is the best match but that AT is one of the worst matches. I would pair the 2 as opposites

Despite flapjack having a more dark color pallete and tone. Over all, adventure time is actually more emotionally complex and has far more depth. The prominent theme of love in ITAOTS is non-exsistent in flapjack, while in adventure time, love is actually a major theme (in later seasons). Flapjack is childish and happy go lucky, while Finn is a more competent and mature main character, and better reflects mangum/the narrator.

Im going more by the tone of the albums and the tone of the shows. The tone of NMH clashes with the tone of AT in every way. Jeff mangum would be some hermit that finn beats up for practicing black magic if he was in the show, he wouldnt be finn or even on his side. The sad ww2 and lost love (its definitely not beatles like love songs its hermit longing songs) vibe is just one more reason its flapjack.

Adventure Time isn't random, though. It has serious undertones of apocalypse, romance, and some deeply unsettling vibes in a few episodes. This is obvious even without looking too much into it which I don't bother doing.

i even said i like AT. Its the only tv show that i keep up with currently. I think serious tv shows are a watse of time and they just seem so phony and flat on their face fake. I just dont care about fictional characters. When AT has a bad episode i can easily shrug it off because it was only 10 min and i like it more for the animation than anything. My personal opinion is if i want something serious id read a book or watch the news. Serious tv show or movie to me is impossible. I just think these people arent real and i dont care what happens to them. Certain things to bug me too much to take them seriously, like dramatic music playing out of nowhere or girls caked with make up in a post appocalyptic world.
Yea my point is tv itself isnt too serious so i wouldnt think it pathetic to like a show that admits its not too serious up front
