Why does EDM get so much hate? Every time I mention liking EDM people are like "then you don't like music" or "why don't you listen to some real music." But it's not like I don't like other stuff, I enjoy all sorts of things like Bon Jovi or RHCP. But I like EDM too and I don't see why it gets so much hate. There's all sorts of it.

Honestly people calling any type of electronic music EDM is such a general term it's ridiculous. that's like calling something RDM (rock dance music). But seriously though I've had someone on this board try to tell me that Gabba is in anyway EDM. In short using the acronym EDM on this board is an attempt to
disenfranchise artists/any electronic genre.
I can't hate the artists themselves, but I can hate the scene. Ravers are the most annoying concert/festival goers around. I'd rather spend all day with hippies dropping acid than have to deal with a bunch of ravers.

Why live? On topic though, I think it is because it probably the most uninspired, derivative genre of music out there. I can differentiate between the pop and rock music that plays on my work's playlist along with most genres, but, as soon as I walk into the kitchen where the Chefs play EDM it all just sounds the same. It quite honestly deserves the hate it gets.

Thats not entirely true. EDM literally uses the same tones, same textures, same song structures, same scales, same rythms, similar melodies every single fucking time. Its way more samey than your average radio pop. Hell, listen to Animals by Martin Garrix and you basically heard all EDM out there. And yes, Ive been to EDM festivals before.
