ive been listening to takemitsu music for quite some time. i love his 70s works.

i think you can find all madrigal books from gesualdo on youtube.
>>
Okay help me out understanding the Köchel catalogue. Why is it only restricted to Mozart when it just makes everything more complicated? Why can't it just be an opus number like every other composer has?
>>
>>63914277
i find catalogues in general confusing, but i see the musicological value of having it. as im not a musicologist or instrumentist (or into music before XX century), i dont normally deal with this.
>>
>>63914277
Opus numbers are only for published works and depend on order of publication which may not correspond to order of composition (think Palestrina). When most of a composer's work lie in manuscript, which is the case for most musicians before the 19th century, establishing a roughly chronological (as in Koechel) or categorical (as in BWV) catalogue number helps enormously when you're trying to discuss the works.

The IBA releases are some of my favorite recordings of his Sonatas, spread out over the course of 6 or 7 Volumes.

You can't get all of his sonatas in one compilation that's for sure
>>
>>63918500
>>63918459
Correction: you can get all in one compilation those aren't the best recordings though
>>
>>63918459
Schnabel's is probably the best overall, but they are old recordings. No one does full justice to literally all of the Beethoven sonatas though, you will find interpreters who are great in one sonata, but maybe less agreeable in another. Really, you should just try to listen to as many performers as you can and discern for yourself whom leans towards your preferences in regards to interpretation. Everyone has different tastes.
>>
>>63918533
Yeah but I'd rather have something in one big compilation.

i went to oberlin. my teacher there was peter takacs.
takacs was taught by leon fleisher
fleisher was taught by schnabel
schnabel was taught by leschetizky
leschetizky was taught by czerny
and czerny taught by beethoven.

SOOOOOOOOO

i'm gonna go ahead and recommend this because there is a direct lineage from beethoven himself. plus, takacs really just absolutely LOVES beethoven and has poured his life into this work.

So, I'm getting kind of bored with music at the moment. Not much is really interesting me anymore. I'm kind of interested in getting into classical as it would be a huge step away from what I normally listen to lately.

I've always enjoyed the composition of post-rock songs which sometimes are on the verge of classical, I suppose. But anyways what pieces would you recommend if I wanted to hear strings in the vein of Sigur Ros? Especially like the song Andvari.

I know that it was asked numerous times already but how do I get into classical?Do I start with the most famous composers like Mozart and Bach and does the people who play the pieces(forgot the right word about them) matters/how can I make the difference between them. Also what a mount of music theory will be enough to fully understand it because the people here and in general talk a lot about it and I cant understand pretty much anything.

Be slow. Take your time and find put different composers and conductors. Start out with the big names as they get mentioned a lot for a reason. They are great. Pic related is a guide to Mozart's pieces. The important thing is to not feel rushed. Also look for big pieces that you might remember from popular culture (Libiamo Ne'lieti Calici, 1812 Overture, Beethoven's 9th, etc.) Those will foster a love and understandability to classical.

>>
>>63922602
Quintets are a must. I'm sure you've at least listened to symphony 9, but his others are really good too. Personally digging 5 right now. I also like his violin and piano concertos.

His chamber music is pretty good in general, listen to his 12th Sq and his piano trios. Slavonic dances are good too, listen to different arrangements.

A pretty underrated composer by normies besides the new world desu. Though I did hear his 1st quintet on the radio today which made me happy.

Feels bad man
>>
>>63919244
Considering he went to Oberlin he's probably some sort of tranny with blue hair too
>>
>>63922727

His 7th is extraordinary. The 8th too. Both are better than The New World, which is a bunch of nice melodies held together with tape.

And 6th is slightly too repetitive, but very nicely Slavic. Recommend Kubelik and Kertesz.
>>
>>63922770

The guy was practically gushing with melodic inventions. Hell, his violin concerto kinda suffers for it because there are so many great melodic ideas in there just jammed together.
>>

>>
>>63922861
ancerl, silvestri, kabasta

kabasta has a 9th that blows your socks off.
>>
>>63922861

Yeah, he's very reliable, but I think Kertesz bests him with the 8th. The way he draws the symphony to an end is almost nostalgic, it's extraordinary.
>>
>>63922890
kubelik desu is probably one of the most consistent conductors period.

i've only really disliked his beethoven out of everything i've heard from him.

The cellist performing it was just spectacular. I'm wondering how that sort of performance will translate to just a recording. You could see on his face that he was feeling the emotion of the piece and he reacted very physically to big interval jumps and during the very jerky pizzicato and at big dynamic changes in the piece. It was incredible to watch.
