What does /mu/ think of Aerosmith?

>>
I never got why the became so huge

So what's your favorite Aerosmith song? Power ballad or funky country rock number.
>>
just DLd a live album from the late 60s, pretty good. I only just checked them out recently because Greg Proops loves them!
>>
I gotta say, Dream On is a guilty pleasure because of that Mellotron

Dream On.

Sweet Emotion a close 2nd

Not really a fan, but i do like a couple of songs.

I will give credit to Steven Tyler though, the dude is amazing live. Almost 70 years old and he can still sing the songs live as good as he did 30+ years ago.

I'm not really a fan, but Steven Tyler's voice might be it. I still don't get how KISS got so popular.

His voice has remained almost eerily unchanged from the 70s unlike, say, Vince Neil or Paul Stanley who are just a shell of what they once were.

They weren't unusually special or stand-out from the run of the mill of 70s rock, but they did invent the power ballad also ST's vocals were quite original at the time and nobody before him really sounded like that. Note that he didn't really find his trademark "ack ack" sound until the second album.

70s Aerosmith > Zeppelin

I wouldn't go that far although Aerosmith never stole blues songs without giving the original author proper credit, though like LZ, they were good for about four albums before running out of gas.

But then is that so unusual? Many bands, even ones with huge discographies, have only 3-4 "essential" albums. This applies to the Rolling Stones, Metallica, RHCP, Iron Maiden, and a lot of others. The rest of their catalog is superfluous even if it contains some good material.
