No.
Pygmalion is their only truly great album. It's like the only one that actually separated them from the rest of the scene.

I think pic related feels a bit inconsistent, but when it's good, it's really enjoyable. Only gave it a fair chance recently after writing it off 2 years ago.
>>
>>63888435
If you truly "get" Loveless, you wouldn't even dare to make that comparison.

Why'd you initially write it off?

Probably cause he doesn't do drugs. That sounds like a slight against the record but dear god if there is any record to be listened to on drugs its this one.
>>
>>63891873
Wasn't into noisy chiptunish IDM stuff back then. I thought Dsco was the representative track on the album. Wasn't until recently that I noticed the representative track is probably Fruitcake And Cookies/To All The Dancers because of that one recurring melody.

Actually, I quit weed a couple of months ago, and the album just clicked for me a couple of days ago.

yes. their label Tooth & Nail is very much a Christian rock label. and you can kind of get it from some of their lyrics.

Would you guys consider this album shoegaze? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZS4CG6ipV0
>>
>>63888413
This is really good.
>>
Someone rec me shoegaze that is more ambient. I want guitars as nice as Loveless but less pop. Love Is A Stream is a pretty good example but I want more gazeyness.
>>
>>63901627
You might not like how noisy it is, but astrobrite - pinkshinyultrablast is pretty good.
>>
>>63901627
Listen to Fennesz - Endless Summer. Not really shoegaze but it's textural guitar and it's ambient.
>>
>>63888435
Montie I honestly wouldn't mind if you dropped dead right now.

>>63888435
Not even close. Their best album, Pygmalion, is two orders of magnitude lesser than Loveless.

that's the only one I know of too.

For the record, dsco and chocolate matter feel like they belong on an entirely different album.

I didn't "get" VDC at first either, mostly since I'd only ever listen to dsco.

>>63888435
If not including Loveless, maybe.

I actually haven't listened to that yet even though I've listened to the band pinkshinyultrablast. I like noise music so I'm fine with some harshness

Good album but like you said not necessarily what I'm looking for. Have you listened to Venice? It's my favorite Fennesz album

Is Loveless that great? I've only heard "Sometimes", and it's OK.
>>
>>63907248
It's really up for you to decide, but generally people think it's great.
>>
>>63888435
>all these people sucking loveless dick
>all these people thinking Pygmalion is slowdive's best album

I don't object to people liking my bloody valentine more, but I object to the implication that loveless blows everything slowdive did out of the water. From the POV of someone who lves both, I can think of numerous reasons why Souvlaki is a better album than Loveless, not least because of its emotional affectivity, the strength of its vocals and its songwriting.
>>
>>63907376
I like you.

MBV fans are why I seldom bother with /shugazi/ anymore.

The new Ambersmoke dropped today.

I've listened to it twice and am enjoying it. Maybe not as much as Wear Your Love but they've definitely got their unique style down, and it works well in a less noisy environment. Some trip-hop vibes which work well too.

Really one of the most underrated bands if you ask me. The gloom style needs more musicians in it, everyone involved is great.

How do you guys feel about Curve's Cuckoo?
I'm listening to it right now, and I like it much more than Doppelganger.
>>
>>63921063
It seems like the music overall got more mechanical and aggressive with all the industrial rock shit going on, but the vox performance generally sounds less attitude-driven. Like her singing's become almost solemn in comparison. Does anyone else feel kinda like this? Like to counteract how the music got heavier, her singing replaced it's attitude with something relatively solemn in how expressive it is.
>>
>>63921125
Like Left of Mother has the meditative calm on Sandpit but like it's much more melodic.

Just listened to pic for the first time. I like the diversity of sounds and influences throughout the album. I think one of the major pitfalls of most harder shugazi is a tendency for everything to blur together (Botanist, Heretoir), so it's refreshing to hear an album that can do a couple of things pretty competently
