Maybe not as experimental/weird as your examples, but these are a few japanese bands I immensely enjoy.

>>63846701
Ningen is their best and the new ep is pretty good- its a little more poppy - if you can imagine 385 being a little more poppy

There are many good indie Jap bands just so you know.

Everyone who ever posts in these threads brings up entry-level artists. People who post on /mu/ and /jp/ about Japanese music artists either know 0% or 100%, no in-between, that they will only find the same stuff here that they could find looking at charts and blogs and YouTube videos. They may find something that's new to them, but it is not new to a wider audience or to the internet. We are all "that guy" here because we want to be the person to give the "good recs" and that means the ones that everyone outside of here already knows are good; we are hoping to introduce them to that one person who does not already know. I'm not saying half of what's posted isn't great, I like MOTFD as much as the next kid who blindly calls them "shoegaze." I'm just saying that the only reason to post in a Japanese music thread on 4chan besides looking for artists you don't want to spend the time looking at related videos on YouTube for is to signal that you listen to Japanese music, to signal it to someone, for some reason. Yes, even >>63846383 is doing this by posting in this thread and calling others "that guy" despite not posting recs of his own, be they different or not. Yes, even I am doing it. Posting what is largely unknown warrants no discussion, because who else is there to want to discuss material they have to put in the work to find? More fruitful to talk about tricot some more. Have you heard of MIDORI before? This is the nature of these threads, and why the only material you will see posted here is something that has already been talked about in a much more dedicated circle elsewhere online.
Haisuinonasa if you like math rock. Their shit is cool
Watashi no Koko
Shinsei Kamattechan
>>63847238
Shit son this book is too deep for me
i don't want to be that guy but YMO and everything related is great stuff, it'll make your mainstream top 40 friends flip out at you but it's really some of the best music
>>63847403
why would you be "that guy"? YMO are well-liked, even in Japan
they're cool, mang

Dir en grey, two Dir en grey side-projects, and a band led by an ex-Dir en grey roadie.
Excellent taste. Everyone, aspire to be more like this anon.
Wednesday's Campanella are pretty decent and I've never seen them posted on here although I think most people know Ken Hidefumi
Deep house and garage-inspired JPop

LOL

Kinoko Teikoku is one of my favorite bands, not just japanese. They do some really good contemporary shoegaze/post-rock stuff. It sounds a little mid-00's but in a good way. I love their singing too. They tend to prominent but very unobtrusive.
Also theres a mixtap floating around the internet called yellow loveless, which is loveless covered by a variety of jap-bands. It's not great as a whole but it gives a decent preview of several good shoegaze/post-rock/experimental-pop bands. Boris covers sometimes which is worth the listen in its self

I really loved 友達なんていらない死ね, but when I listened to the rest of the album it felt like five minutes of crescendo-core songs after another. The songs themselves were good but the album experience was just tedious.
Did they put out anything else that might be appealing?
Also, yall who missed when Wakusei Abnormal were the flavor of the month should check their debut EP out. It balances the pop and prog rock elements better than their newer stuff, and hearing similar but rawer vibes from Shinsei Kamattechan drew me into them in the first place.

Koenjihyakkei are a lot like Magma but more chaotic, hardcore punk-ish, and noisy.
Ruins is similar to Koenjihyakkei but pulls a more odd and math rock take on it rather than aggressive and zeuhlish
Both are cool though

Oh I didn't know this was finished. Thanks.
How about Hanatarash?
