Thrash metal (or simply thrash) is a style of Metal music that originated in the United States in 1980-1981 under the heavy influence of British bands such as Venom and Motörhead and in reaction to another style of American rock / metal music that arose at the time, Glam Metal. Bands like Metallica, Slayer and Exodus took the roughest aspects of the NWOBHM sound and focused on writing fast and energetic songs with riffs which focused more on rhythmic than melodic qualities and laid out simple melodies over palm-muted pedal-point notes, so-called skank beats, derived from Hardcore Punk, where a straight bass/snare beat in 4/4 is played as fast as possible, shred guitar solos, shouted, often unmelodic vocals, and songwriting which, at its most extreme, was simply aimed at cramming as many riffs as possible in the span of a few minutes. Lyrics dealt with themes such as war, violence, satanism and Cold War paranoia while oftentimes including sociopolitical commentary, as well as more lighthearted topics like skating, partying and getting drunk. The first full-length studio-produced thrash metal albums were Metallica's Kill 'Em All and Slayer's Show No Mercy, both released in 1983.
As the 1980s progressed, hardcore punk bands like D.R.I. and Suicidal Tendencies took a lot of influence from the American thrash metal scene and refined their chaotic styles into what is commonly referred to as Crossover Thrash. Such influence worked both ways, as exemplified by Anthrax side project S.O.D., whose 1985 album Speak English or Die became a staple of this hardcore-influenced offshoot of thrash.
>>63824742
Old pasta is old
probably the originator of the hardcore/thrash meme
>>63824742
Thanks kikepedia
Where did this "thrashcore didn't influence thrash metal" come from? You're literally being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian, it's been accepted fact since the 80s.
It's undisputed fact, not even an opinion.
Thrash metal's name in the first place implies punk influence since thrash was a term used to describe fast hardcore (fastcore) before thrash was used to describe metal.
This was before the term "hardcore" was even that big of a term, too. There was a split in the punk scene to call extreme punk hardcore or thrash, in the early 80s. If the term hardcore were bigger thrash metal's name could literally be hardcore metal/hard metal.
>>63824786
The originator of this hardcore/thrash meme dates back to the 80s.
Early thrash metal bands were very into the underground demo trading scene, and thrashcore was really big in this scene.

So what did we learn? Don't hype albums? I'd be okay with that. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed by anti-climax. I know there are no brakes on the hype train, but we can at least refuse to board it.

>most releases of the 10's. They are more than 100 and less than 500
m8, I alone bought about 500 releases of that timespan, and those were like 75% black metal.
how did you come to the conclusion that you listened to 'most' of the 10s releases?
>"Hey man my friend's band needs a drummer and heard you're good, wanna try out?"

>those were like 75% black metal.
Jeez, and 99% of them are utter folly. I'm not that deluded and still can see whether an entire genre is stale and second-rate or not. This whole web 2.0 online black metal thing is a joke, sorry.

They were somewhat original on their debut, then they went mainstream generic on their sophomore and now they must just be fucking with us. It's like their setting us up for the most avantgarde ass new thinking album of all time as their 4th. Right?
This is just getting dumb.
