I was expecting something more cheesy, what I got was pretty unique. Everything is building up to that series of shifts starting around 1:28 and it work, especially that silence and quick change of beat. Not really my style, but I like your structuring, it doesn't overstay its welcome.

I have to give you credit for recording this with a GH mic, this sounds pretty good. The bass sounds especially good in the mix. The lack of vocals or a standout lead melody is a big weakness for this track, what you have is a decent foundation, but the chord changes are very slow and I think you need something to offset that. Plus it'll add to the emo aesthetic, I think the instrumental would be fine for it.

You have a pretty big soundstage, but the bass seems a little weak. You could have gone a little harder on the hi-hats for a little more rhythm, that's really in nowadays as well. I quite like the outro. You also have some very very subtle shuffling that starts around :50 that I think would sound good turned up. You could do some experimentation with panning it as well. That way you'd be adding a more prominent rhythm and you'd be able to try your hands at some engaging soundplay.

The two other thing on the spotlight are my 2 released E.P.s that you can download for free on Bandcamp. "'Love, please", my very first EP is more of all my inspirations in a 5 tracks record, and the second one, "Mistake", is a concept EP that features big moogs, a more progressive approach.
Each of them has a spoken word track, spoke in english and french.

The bass drone gets a little tiresome to listen to, maybe alternate between two notes? Also the sample at the second half drowns out the percussion, so maybe balance the layers a little better. I've made a track with a similar kind of sampled style, check it out!

I don't know, I mix my percussion loud. I don't know if it's because I'm a drummer or it just sounds good or both. I don't know if I can offer that as advice alone since there's a lot of things that make up a mix. I don't really leave my samples unaltered, but the point is- sample selection is key. Sticking with a standard 909 or 808 doesn't cut it, it's gotta fit in the mix whether that means choosing a different sample to work or to alter it in a way that will make it work- it's gotta fit.
A lot of mixes that I get have really crappy kicks and too much or not enough bass. It seems that people don't really have the ability to hear lower frequencies which is crucial in getting a good mix. It really doesn't matter what the rest of the spectrum sounds like if your low end is crappy.
Your music is a bit on the bright side. You've got a lot of high frequencies that are out of control - at least with my monitoring equipment. I'd do what I can to try to shelf them off or determine a reasonable cut off. Again, there isn't really a lot for me to critique with bit music as there isn't much a sound palette just in the nature of the genre.

Listening to your latest track. Like the song, thing it's cool. I think the synth bell-like synths could be more present in the mix and the vocals more up-front. Maybe during the drop, bring in a tad of reverb on the lead arp but that mono sinewave type synth is a bit loud. Also I think the bass stays too stationary through out the whole thing. I think the chorus should have an arp pattern with a deep moog-sounding bass that has a low cut off. Like I said, it's a creative choice.
