sunbather really touched on the potential for majestic moments in black metal
not to trigger anyone but it's like HHH said, there's a romantic undercurrent to all black metal musically that hasn't been explored much in the direction that is life affirming and joyous.
some songs on aesthetica have the longing vibe that is also in romantic music but it never quite reached moments of pure expressions of joy. i think this will be realized by some as of yet not public band.
check out panopticon, fell voices, particularly their second album, and skagos if you haven't already

In my experience they sound like garbage live. I saw them From the Kettle blah blah-era, they played 3 songs off sunbather, and that track. I couldn't hear the guitars at all. And the ymade this mistake so many times, I checked tons of live recordings, checking wether it was intentional or not, and EVERY SINGLE gig of theirs is fucked up.
I kinda like their first three, New Bermuda was dreadful. There's all this shit going on about sunb8r, but it's a nicely written album, sounds nice, there's some hipster hurr hurr I know belles lettres, and yeah it's definitely not a genre defining album at all. But stating that it does not sound good is just traight up assholery.

Off-topic question, but does anyone actually understand Deafheaven's vocals? I know you don't need to discern what the lyrics in order to still feel the emotion in them, but still, the vocalist could replace the lyrics with nonsense and I would probably be none the wiser.
