Lets talk about hardware synthesizers and audio synthesis. Post your setup, cool tips, ask questions, etc.

I want to create lush soundscapes that sound like oneohtrix point never. What's a good synth for $500 or less that can do that? I know he uses a juno-60 but I dont got the $$ for that.
>>
>>63768678
also something easy to learn would be nice. I'm pretty new to this stuff. Although the knobs and stuff look exciting, they also kind of intimidate me. anything with an arp latch and atmospheric sounds is what im looking for.
>>
>>63768774
the dedicated knob like ms2000 actually makes it easier to learn
>>
>>63768948
dedicated knob?
>>
>>63768678
If you must have that sound Juno-106s can bee found for less than the 60, sometimes far less. 106 has MIDI too
>>
>>63769590
>Juno-106
these things seem just out of my price range. I'm finding them for 600 or 700 dollars.

>no aftertouch
whats the point then? part of the mellotron charm is the pressure sensitive keys
>>
>>63770164
I thought the digital one had it.

Either way finding the new one would be way easier than finding an original, aslo I feel like the original would be way more up keep
>>
Bump. /prod/ sucks at synth talk
>>
>>63770228
The same company makes a version that's $800 more that has polyphonic aftertouch. $800 more seems pretty ridiculous, but so is charging $2000 for a digital mellotron.
>>
>>63770283
honestly /prod/ is autistic when it comes to anything that's analog.
>>
>>63770384
>>63770283
It's pretty annoying, being a longtime /prod/ poster myself

>HURR, JUST BUILD IT IN MATLAB
>>
where's a good place other than ebay to buy synths like the ms2000? all these things are shipping from japan.
>>
>>63770422
I'm convinced /prod/ is filled with fl soundcloud producers who can afford anything over $200 yet.
>>
>>63770452
craigslist

the only synth in my area is a juno-g

kek

patience is key

in the past 5 years I bought a shitload of cool vintage keys all through craigslist, and watched a lot of cool stuff go by. Then again, I'm near Minneapolis, and there tends to be a lot of modular synths on CL

You could try an Arturia Microbrute, OP
>>
>>63772429
is that better than the minibrute?
>>
>>63770384
>/prod/ is autistic when it comes to anything that's hardware.

fixed
>>
bump. is there anything like the esq-1 but with an arp+latch?

What do you guys think of the system 1? good for ambient?
>>
>>63774129
just save up for modular when it comes to ambient desu just start with a100 and expand
>>
guys is a novation mininova good?
>>
>>63770283
the fact that you want to spend less than $500 for a synth with a "lush" sound is the autistic bit

even more autistic is the fact that /prod/ already told you that he uses Omnisphere, which by the way retails at $500, but you still insist on getting spoonfed as to what exactly to buy, brand new of course, because you're such a lazy fuck that it hasn't ocurred to you to look in your local classifieds/craigslist/whatevs for a use $500 synth, then googling/youtubing it to hear its sound an deciding for yourself if you like it. Because, at it was already said to you in prod, at that price point you better go used because you'll have more choices than the minilogue or some mono synth, not ideal for lush sounds

but of course, you're a fucking faggot, so calling /prod/ autistic and begging to be spoonfed is what you do
>>
Man you guys complain about /prod/ being autistic but this is no better...

Don't buy a fucking modular synth if you can't even afford a Juno-60 you're gonna end up with a lot of stuff you don't really know what to do with. Sure they're nice once you have a basic grasp on sound synthesis but it's a bit much for someone literally just starting.

I'd recommend a microkorg if you're just looking to get your hands on something. They're pretty powerful but you'll find yourself growing out of it at some point, which feels nice because you know you learned something. If for some reason you can't find a cheap microkorg, get a Roland Sh201 it's a great synth despite a lot of the shit talking and the way it's laid out will teach you the general idea of synthesizing sounds.

If you're really patient and want to go hard try and find an Alesis Ion, they're the perfect beginner synth, but are highly coveted.

The micro/mini brute are good from what I hear but they're monophonic (you can only play one note at a time.)

Oh the Korg Minilogue is nice too.

>>63774670
If you want to create soundscapes like OPN just get a synth, a delay/reverb pedal and go nuts with the looping. Most of his tracks are just and idea looped and recorded in Goldwave then added layers over it, it can be a little challenging and frustrating when you start out but as you do it more you'll get the hang of it.

Good luck with your adventures :)

Menu-diving can get overwhelming. A single knob for a single function actually helps to break things down nicely.
>>
>>63774670
Polyphony is convenient but overrated
>>
Is it possible to hook up a 10-sound Casio keyboard to a PC which has MIDI software so more sounds can go through the PC to the speakers in real time? What software would that be?
>>
>>63775310

he already asked this question in /prod/, he was told what I said
>>
>>63775769
For starters you will possibly need the drivers for your keyboard.
>>
>>63768678
I don't have much analogue and I've been looking at the Moog sub's. Are they worth the price? They come with a lot of features and I know its the name brand and everything but 1000+ seems kind of pricey, unless I'm just not used to synth costs.

Wow been a while since I've seen a synth general

What's the verdict on the minilogue? Anyone own one? Saw a few pretty bad demos but it looks pretty versatile
>>63769590
You can also find a juno 6 for relatively cheap. It's pretty much a more inconvenient 60

>>63770452
craigslist and local shops are god
